I just spent close to an hour doing a search in the forum and now come to you for help. I got the footrest from Jim H 2 months ago and one of the plugs has lost it's head ( kinda like me ) These plugs are longer than normal, and I KNOW I saw a part # or place to get them in one of the forums but alas, it seems to be gone.

If anyone can tell me what/where to get them I'll forever be grateful :!:

I did the same thing. Make sure you get the rest of the plug out of the floor and not push it in. The plugs are easy enough to find locally. I had to try a few stores before I found em, but they are a 45491 used in GM, Ford and Chrysler. They come in a package of 3. I found some at Autozone.

Good to know. The 2nd time I got into the car after putting in the dead pedal, I broke one of the heads in half. The clips are still holding, but it doesn't look as good.

Hey Rick - THANKS a BUNCH :D First place I went to with that number was a winner and the footrest is no longer hanging. I'd reccomend to all that got the footrest to have a spare package on hand - 59 cents , two minutes and the problem is fixed !

Sorry guys

I've been SUPER-BUSY at work these last 2 months or so - haven't had a chance to keep up with the forums...if you ever have any questions about the footrests - please PM me, or email me direct at jholmgren "at" advertising.com.

Mitch - Glad you found them, thanks for helping him out in my absence Rick!

Actually - I've had a few more requests...so I'll probably be posting another "group buy" email :D

Since I made this post, and replaced the plugs the first time, believe it or not ... I've broken those darn things THREE more times  I just don't understand why. I said earlier " I'd reccomend to all that got the footrest to have a spare package on hand" .... maybe it should read "I'd reccomend to all that got the footrest to have a spare packageS on hand".

Is anyone else having this problem ? .... are my feet SO big and clumsey I deserve it ? Those 45491's don't hold-up .... anyone use or tried anything different ?[/b]

Hmmmm..haven't heard any other problems like this...I've probably put about 30K miles on my original footrest...no problems.

I wouldn't say it has anything to do with big feet...I think Andy Lurig's probably got some pretty big feet, since he barely clears the headroom area in the Insight

Me...I've got size 11's...do you wear boots or other hard-sole shoes a lot? I wear sneakers 99.9% of the time, perhaps that's it??

If anyone has a better idea for a method of attaching the footrests...I'm sure willing to package them with something different.

No ' blame ' intended to anyone on this... it's a unique problem for me it seems. And to boot, it happened again yesterday. This time, after replaceing one that the top had completley broken off, I drove to my daughters for dinner (45 miles) went to get out and noticed the 'new' one's top had split  ... it was still semi-holding.

Think I'll drill a hole through the floor and insert a steel 1/2 bolt to solve my problem .......

LOL...well...that'll certainly hold it Mitch! Just make sure you seal up that hole, so you don't end up with soggy carpet!
Man...I've often heard the expression "lead-foot"...never thought I meet a real one ;-)

If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Jim

ps. - Sorta off topic, but my '75 Spitfire has holes (intentional AFAIK) in both the driver and passenger-side foot areas. I guess those wacky Brits figured they should put drainage in - just in case you get caught in a downpour with the top down. The only problem is that the car is steel...so its a nice spot for rust to form. I'm in the middle of replacing one of the floorboards now. The dime-sized hole is now about 6" in diameter

foot rest

When I fabricated my own foot rest I used "self tapping" 5/16 X 1/2 in. long screws to replace the plastic plugs. Haven"t broken one in 85,000 miles.

I just received one of Jim's footrests (from the latest group buy) and headed out in the dark with a rubber mallet and flashlight to install it. I got one of the plugs partially seated, inserted the other one part way, hit it with the mallet, and in one blow managed to pop the heads off of both plugs.

<sigh>

I'll pick up a package of new ones at the store tomorrow. And I'll look into those self-tapping screws.

The footrest looks great, though - thanks Jim!

D'OH!
Let me know if you have any trouble finding the plugs Mike. I keep extras on hand, I'd be happy to drop a couple in the mail to you.

I actually push mine in with my thumbs, but maybe I have extra-strong thumbs! I knew all those hours and hours of video games would pay off someday (the glorious results of a mis-spent youth) !

Glad you like the footrest! I just replaced the foam under mine this weekend - it was looking pretty grimy.
