I am considering sending between four and six gen 1 injectors out for cleaning and testing, with the resulting pattern and flow rate of each provided as part of the package. I would then install and/or keep them in reserve for future use or diagnostics. Can someone recommend a firm that does this? What else should I expect or ask for?

I realize I can build my own tester - I actually have a fuel rail and an injector tester and a way to develop pressure - and I may in fact do that before sending them out. The purpose of the use of an outside firm to do this is partly to learn from direct experience, and a second reason is to check my own work.

Thanks!

How much do these services charge? My friend here in Charlottesville has an injector tester/cleaner. I recently had a set of Volvo injectors that I found in a door pocket of a car I bought, and rather than buy new ones I brought them over to him and we stuck them in the tester and found that they were very uneven. Stuck them in the cleaner and let them simmer for a little while. Stuck them back in the tester and viola! They all ran perfectly and flowed extremely evenly! He has all the rebuild components for Bosch EV1 style injectors since that's what he works on most, but the items for EV6 are easy to get as well.

there are a lot of variables that go into that kind of data .
most machines that perform this are very analog and don't always account for atmosphere or temp's correctly, test equipment varies, they typically use mineral spirits in the flow machine so they don't accidentally spark off a thermal event. operator's like to watch tiktok etc.
im not saying you can't get close, because that's what they are comparing it too, they look up spec and try to get it close.
there's a reason your car is fitted with all those sensors, it adapts to all the variables and than they add a huge window of fuel trims to quickly compensate those variable's.
i would never pay somebody else to do this.
if you have 3 test tubes and an ultrasonic cleaner, you can build yourself a matched set. first flow your dirty one's, record results, flow clean one's, record results, this can be accomplished carefully under the hood using oem rail if there's enough slack in the fuel line. you could check the coil's resistance during the duty cycling to varify what your eye's can see in the test tube, doubley checking the resistance and health of your car's wiring.
ultimately your car performs this test better than most of the places you send it too, look at where your fuel trims are with a scanner.. pull the injectors out and clean them.. put them back in and see where your fuel trims are, make sure the weather hasn't changed, make sure your coolant temperature is the up to the same temp, and record your results.
the biggest factor to efficient running engine is having a matched set. so the computer doesn't have to do lots of compensating for having an outlier bolted to the intake.
i just don't see the logic of adding in somebody else's different data to the variables. but im my own mechanic, i understand why many people would rather pay for a service. i for example would pay somebody else to make my clothing, i don't have the right materials or tools to do that and be presentable.

This is all great info. I may drop $120 and have four injectors cleaned. That gives me an extra as a baseline for.cleanimg the rest. Have a spare fuel rail from another member. I might see what I can build in two hours. Might be possible to make a judgement about how well I did using a test card for the spray pattern for the qualitative perspective and volumetric measurements for a quantitative perspective.

I sent mine to Injector RX in Houston. $25 expedited service for each injector, used my own shipping labels $8 each way.

I found that injectors that don't spray the same amount of fuel can kill lean burn performance. One injector was 108cc iirc and another was 148cc. Third was in the middle somewhere. They're rated at 160cc, they all came back into spec

I've used RC a few times and Dr Injector once. No complaints with the latter but i'll use RC again next time. Dr Injector is a little different- a franchise that most operators run as a side business. In my case, local guy who owns a muffler shop has his Injector testing / cleaning station setup in a section of his shop.

This reminds me, I want to send the Insights injectors out! I've seen some drastically improved performance in the past with other projects.

I was at the dollar store and found these:
Liquid Drinkware Fluid Font Material property

Already have the fuel pressure rail. I have an air compressor tank somewhere. Just need a pressure-capable bottle to hold the test/cleaning liquid with a hole for air pressure and another at the bottom for the liquid to escape to the rail. I should have something laying around.
