Check out this ebay auction:
Honda Insight Insight | eBay
Faded paint + 250k mi = Hooptie
I'm not knocking the car, I drive one daily myself. But consider this has over 5 days to go, there are 26 people watching this auction. Maybe I'm posting this that maybe some day I'll get 80% of my cash back rather than 60% but they ain't dead yet. That is for sure.
Unless gas drops below $2.

Gasoline prices seem to be creeping back up, so there is hope that a thin market will develop for the nicest cars. A bit surprised by your ref, but lets wait and see. Certainly getting to be a rarer car - in a relative sense:)

No Ksight but sure would love that RHD K24........
for about $8k. It would cost another $1k to get it here.
And 250 addt hours figuring our what the hell I bought and how to operate and maintain it. And god forbid something goes wrong, then I'd be flying Scott from CA to IN every time it had a cold. Nice car but ain't worth $10k to me.

Whatdaya know, its still for sale. A better judgement is a true auction where bids are offered. Having said that its pretty common for people to use another account to run the bid up.

I saw something Id like for a price, so I bidded my price I would pay. Guy messages me his reserve, so for giggles I set my max bid under that. Interesting he sent me what he wanted?

Whatdaya know this other guy with 15 purchase history bids and bids a dollar at a time to my max bid by time the auction closed. I guess it wasnt enough for him as usually these asshats will cancel their last bid once they know your limit and run you up so you win it.

I'm sorry, but the insight is not rare. Far from.
No, but they are getting there - and rapidly at this point. Lots of economically unrepairable cars noticed, and collision repairs not viable. The good side of this is that there is a good supply of used parts.

The good cars with low mileage are still commanding decent prices. Check this auction, still with time left:

The middle east in imploding. What will that do for gasoline prices?

I don't know what rare really means, but the approx. 18,000 original number must have been cut in half by now, and as I said, we are in the rapid deplenishment zone;)

Its hard not to laugh so hard I pee in my pants when I read someone says a Honda is rare. Its not every day you see an s2000, del so or a gen 1 prius either.

JimE, that seller has -1 feedback. He sold a bmw that was rusted out. Likely a previous flood car.

Ive seen quite a few gen 1s in my area and gen 2 prius and prius v. Maybe a leaf once.

Honda had hoped to sell 6,500 insights a year, the demand then was not there.

17,020 world wide is rare enough. And I hardly ever see another G1 as often as I see Prius's, G2 Insight's, Volts, Leafs, etc'.

I remember those. They were bad-*** little econoboxes. But they weren't quite the pinnacle of anything, unlike the G1 Insight.

I had a 1993 Mazda RX-7 R1 in Competition Yellow Mica. Purest of the pure sports cars. Only 350 of those in the whole world. So I know all about "rare". ;)

I consider something to be rare if there are less than 10 in the world. Extremely rare is less than 5.

More "rare" also doesn't equate to more value. A 4 cylinder 1969 Nova has a production of about 1% of the total, but it's worth 1/2 of normal V8 car and 1/10 of the more uncommon V8 cars.

Rare is very subjective.

I consider a vehicle rare when I rarely see them on the roads.

Such as the 1st Gen Insights but then again, I consider Chevy Citations rare now, as well as Vegas, Monzas etc.

You get my point.
