With Exxon Mobile posting another record quarter of earnings...8 billion $$$ with a 7% increase...I was extra careful on my commute this morning.
On hilly, rural roads I achieved 76.8 mpg on my 7 mile commute. That is just a bit over a 100th of a gallon of gas per mile, Yippee.
I know I can do even better thanks to all the excellent tips from this Insightful discussion group.
P.S. I haven't patronised Exxon since the Valdez spill

Complicated topic. Cheap gas encourages thoughtless use of gas. But here is to politics. Why do oil companies get huge tax credits while earning record profits? The tax money that oil companies should be paying could be used to develop green, ie. wind and solar, power for the electric grid. Grants and tax credit increases for residential solar installations would also be a good use of the nations resources. Or maybe paying down the incredibly huge deficit?
Anything but huge tax breaks for the oil companies!!!

Sure, I agree about not giving special tax breaks, but I don't think of that as the same as "doing something" to them.

I still have some trouble believing that the price of gas is too high. This weekend is the first really warm one of the year, and Friday evening the roads had the usual number of trailers pulling dirt bikes and quads out to the desert. When I start seeing a lot less of that (and snowmobiles, jet skis, and other 2-cycle engined recreational vehicles), then I'll believe gas is too high :)

Actions speak louder than words, and right now the actions of Americans are making this statement: "I don't care about the current price of gas."

I hope more people will stop complaining, and start doing something to reduce their oil usage. Of course I'm preaching to the choir on this forum.

mileage varied quite a bit between the 3 versions of CRX's (base, HX, Si) My 88 Si averaged low 30's over most of the 175K miles I put on it. Over 40mpg was not uncomon on highway trips. The Si was the least fuel efficient of the 3.
