The previous owner of this car had hauled some stuff in the back and used the back bumper as a sliding rack or something...who knows what it was used for. Needless to say, it looked pretty bad.

So, on a nice sunny weekend and a can of standard gloss black auto paint from Autozone, some paint tape, sand paper, and filler, I spent about a half hour of work, a couple of hours of drying time, and the results are in these pics:

Not sure I like the black but guess it was the easiest fix to the problem.

well, it doesn't help that the grainy pics doesn't do it justice really.

I was thinking about a gunmetal color but then decided on black to go good against the back window. Anything closer to a silver would have looked like I "tried" to match the color but didn't quite make it.

I see your point about trying to match the silver. I guess black was tbe better way to go without paying an arm and a leg at a body shop.

Another repair tip: I've found that if you have cracks in any of the plastic body pieces (as for instance from getting rear-ended by a Suburban), ABS plastic pipe cement does a good job of repairing them.

Well lucky enough it wasn't cracked plastic - just deep gouges.

And the arm / leg bit was what I was avoiding while trying to repair something that just irked me. I think I got OCD on body dings.

I really think Honda should have made a champaigne gold insight....

If it's in a visible area. If it's a simple crack, rather than being squashed or torn, you get a very thin black line. A bit of touch-up paint & sanding would probably take care of it.

Nice fix for your particular problem. Creative at least, makes the car more 'yours'!
Didja ever notice that some sob's will go out of their way to 'key' a neat little car, just 'cause they 'feel like it'?
