Hatchback lift ARM Struts

7422 Views 38 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Gasoline Fumes
My hatchback no longer stays open with temps drop into the 40s. I've seen a few other posts about obtaining replacement ARM/struts. If I decide to replace mine myself is there any tricks or instructions for doing the replacement? Thanks in advance for any help.

@Steady How are your Monroe 900087 hatch struts working, 15 months later? Also, I'd be very interested to know if yours are doing the same thing that the Strongarm struts are doing: others seem to complain that the Strongarm struts speed up as the reaches the top to the point that the hatch apparently bounces. If the Monroes don't do that, I may go with the Monroes. Finally, did the plastic moulding cap fit back on?

Thanks for your input!

Thanks @Steady this is exactly what I wanted to hear! I'm going to purchase the Monroe hatch struts and give them a shot.

Just installed some Monroe 900087 hatch struts over the weeked. They are perfect! As they get toward the top of the lift action, they actually slow down and come to a graceful stop. All parts were included. Fit was perfect. These are really hard to find, so I hope Monroe keeps making them.
I bought a set from Pep Boys, via their Ebay store. Unfortunately, their store now only shows one in stock. They are on back order at Rock Auto. Hopefully they come back into stock.
Darn it!
Yes, but the Monroes don't exist any longer, see above.
