I don’t know why but it seems all the aftermarket struts lack the damping of OEM. Mine do.
Without adequate damping, as the hatch reaches the top of its travel, since less force is needed to lift it there, it accelerates. So I now habitually reach out and grab it as it nears the top. Which is easy. And when I forget, the ‘clunk’ reminds me. And any way it’s not such a big deal.

Just installed some Monroe 900087 hatch struts over the weeked. They are perfect! As they get toward the top of the lift action, they actually slow down and come to a graceful stop. All parts were included. Fit was perfect. These are really hard to find, so I hope Monroe keeps making them.

I bought a set from Pep Boys, via their Ebay store. Unfortunately, their store now only shows one in stock. They are on back order at Rock Auto. Hopefully they come back into stock.

Monroe 900087 hatch struts are no longer available anywhere. Corporate restructuring led to abandoning that part of the business. Don't bother looking online for Monroe 900087 hatch struts on EBay or at any of the major auto parts stores either. I looked. Nothing. One website ( https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mon-900087 ) said they could get them in 17 days but when I called they could not say for sure so I called Monroe. They no longer make them. Onward.

Summit racing appears to have some Monroe 900087 in stock but They want $55 after shipping costs. That's a lot of money for some little hatch struts!

edit... nevermind they are special order so they will likely tell you they are never coming.

My link from above:
Not Monroes.
They have gone way up in price, as all things have.

I've been using the cheapest ones from RockAuto for over 3 years now. Still working fine. The catapult effect has diminished somewhat, but they're still a little too powerful. Ultra-Power is currently $7.73 each. And they have 174 in stock.

From 2 years ago? Lift the hatch open fully, reach inside get the pre cut off broom stick, prop it so it holds the hatch open. Done.

I'm cheap, but I'll spend $20 on new hatch supports! Even one old and one new might be enough! I know I'd eventually bump into the broomstick!

I got an update on the ULTRA-POWER 6239 hatch struts. I just got some brand new ones in the mail today to try out and I wasn't given the very important bushings that user Adria had in her installation video here:

Here is a photo of the two white bushings that weren't included with my ultra power hatch struts

So I tried drilling out my ultra power struts to fit the stock bushing and in order to do that the frame of it gets very thin and I ruined mine.

Ultra power drilled out with 1/2 drill bit like user Adria did

And.... It's dead. RIP

Pretty frustrating. I don't know if they forgot to give me the bushings or I would bet they just don't include them anymore.

And now Rockauto is saying they aren't returnable because they've been installed. obviously they are worthless because I drilled them out and broke one but do you guys think they won't be able to refund me? The part simply didn't fit without modifcation and drilling out those brackets that thin is not acceptable imo

Yep, I just got ripped off by RockAuto for the same thing, bushing base far too small diameter. Anyone got a part number that actually fits?

$30 bucks down the drain.

You can return them. RockAuto has always been really good with returns in my experience. I'd expect a prepaid shipping label in this case. It's too bad that they no longer fit, I'm happy with mine.
