I have to replace both headlights and want to know what I have to
remove in order to get to the bolts at the bottom and the right side
of the unit. Is it possible to reach in from the bottom or do I have to remove the bumper( I hope not).

Sorry, Gerard. :( I've never done it, but the SM says:
step one: remove the front bumper.
step two disconnect the connectors
step three remove the 5 mounting bolts, corner bracket, then headlight.

good luck!

Hi Gerard,

I have replaced the headlights, and Jim is right, you need to remove the front bumper. This is not a trivial task! Would be best to have a friend help you, especially putting it back on. There are a lot of little plastic hooks that all need to line up at the same time.

Good Luck!

You didn't say, but this sounds like its pertaining to an Insight, not "other honda hybrids" which is the forum this was posted in so I moved it to the Insight section.

REplacing headlight bulbs

I was just replacing the headlight bulb and was able to do it without removing the bumper. A bit of a squeeze, but managed to unscrew the bulb holder from the back.

Try to avoid the inevitable (at least to me) drop the thingy after it's loosened. With the lower covers, things don't always fall through and can be quite a challenge to recover.

And remember, don't touch halogen bulbs with your fingers. The oil that gets on the bulb makes it burn out quicker. At least that's what the parts guy sold me.

Regards, Jim
