Just joined InsightCentral. Had owned an Insight for one year in 2002. Forced to sell it. I wish to buy a new Insight, I have tried Honda U.K. dealers who look at me with a smile but do nothing. I understand that they are still being made in the U.S.A. Can any one assist me to buy a new Insight (not automatic) without having to pay over the odds and if this is possible I would like all Honda dealers within the U.K. to cover the warrenty in the normal way.

Hi, welcome to the Forum. Honda stopped selling Insights in the UK in 2005. At present Insights are only available in North America and Japan; production is about to cease altogether and they won't be available anywhere.

In the past you would have been able to import a RHD one from Japan but there have been restrictions placed on this - all imported cars now need an expensive 'Model Report' to prove they are safe etc which costs about £3,000. However once a report is done, the same report can be used again and again for the same type of car and are normally rented out at about £250 a time. This has been done for the hundreds of Pajeros of this world but not the Insight. See http://www.modelreports.com for more details. Some of us Insight Owners in the UK have / are considering paying for a Model Report to be done so that we can import Japanese Insights.

At present you are only able to buy second-hand UK spec or previously imported Insights here in Blighty. No UK dealer will provide warranty for an imported vehicle.

Insights do occasionally come up for sale in the UK. At the moment there are two Insights on eBay - a blue UK spec and a red Japanese import. HTH.

From what I can gather the Japanese Honda page shos the Insight as a previously made model now.

I'm not sure about this, but don't the European Insight's have a head light leveler? We don't have that, plus not rear fog light and a few other exclusions. You might be spending a good chunk of change updating it if they require this kind of thing in the UK.
