help!

i just pulled the cover off my spare tire well and found a freaking lake in there

theres prob about a gallon of water in there...and everythings wet, the tire, the carpet below the tire, all my tools

i keep my cars paperwork in the little cubby on top of the plastic cover and in front of the trunk compartment...and it was all wet, as was the plastic cover to the wheel well

is this a really bad thing? could it get into the electronics of the car and possibly damage the IMA system?

also, is there a way to get it out besides by hand? and can i fix it?

HELP....PLEASE

I can't recall anyone having a similar problem, myself included. If the carpet in the rear is dry I would suspect water is coming in from below, possibly while driving in heavy rain or through standing water?

hmmm...that is a possibility, as the roads around me got flooded a couple of weeks ago during the huge storm we had up here, and i was forced to drive through some deep water
