Hello,
I just picked up a Civic Hybrid CVT and really love the car. Yes, I do have Insight envy. So much so that I went back to the dealer, Vandergriff Honda in Arlington, TX, to do a swap. The dealership said "no problem", BUT they don't sell Insight...period. Arrrrgghhh. I guess I will just do the trade in think in December.

Anyway, my question is this. When I turn of my engine, I hear a whine/almost grinding type noise. I hear it most often in my garage, but if I open the door and then turn the car off, I notice it as well. The maintenance folks stated this is normal.
To test the theory, I test drove another Civic Hybrid and noticed the same noise, but I it seemed quieter. This could be due to the fact that I was outside (near an I-20) vs. in my garage.
Does anyone else notice this sound in their Insights? Could it be the IMA motor spinning down, or an actuator or something? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Joe,
My car doesn't make any noise after I turn it off. I've been reading this board for a long time, and I used to read the yahoo group bb, but I don't remember seeing anything about any noise after the car is turned off. Have you checked the Civic Hybrid group/bb? Sounds as though the noise might be peculiar to Civic. You might try taking the car to other dealers if there are any in your area.

Different people have different knowledge bases they work from - whoever listened to it at your dealer might not know something that someone else at a different dealer would.

Good luck with it!

No there was some talk about this on the Yahoo group a little while back. The chat was reguarding the CVT and how it restarted the engine when placed in park while in auto stop. If the car was shut off then placed in park there was that noise. I think it was the belt in the transmission slowing down. So try shifting to neutral, shutting the engine off, then after a moment placing it in park. At least that was method that was posted as working.
