·Hi All:
Accord's "Whispering" Diesel Delivers a Mighty Punch
Honda Switches To Diesel Power
Accord Gets Honda Diesel ...
___What this does offer to those in Europe where low Sulfur Diesel is available is 52 + mpg (Euro spec) in an almost 3,500 Lb mid-size automobile. The engine itself produces 138 HP and 250 Ft-Lb’s of torque via a 2.2 L - DOHC - Direct Rail Injection – Turbo w/ manual transmission. CO2 emissions in the Saloon model are almost the equivalent to the CVT based Insight at 143g/km vs. 144g/km respectively. It easily meets the Euro spec’ed emissions test so HC and NOx should be decent as well? Using the CO2 numbers alone and taking into account a Diesel produces ~ 18 - 20% less CO2 per mile then a std. gasoline ICE, a possible comparable EPA mileage rating should be in the 41 to 42 mpg Hwy range. That is not bad for that large a vehicle with a 0 to 60 time in the 9 + second range. I guess we will all be waiting 4 years before it could possibly hit our shores.
___Unknowns include how much HC and NOx are released as well as if Honda has created a magic particulate trap or if it’s so clean burning, one is not needed?
___Now if they could only place this engines technology scaled to a 1.0 to 1.3 L or 1.3 to 1.5 L iCDTi engine in a Civic or Insight for $15 and $17,000 USD respectively
___Good Luck
