In this recent post rust buildup seemed to be causing opening problems on the hood.

I've had some minor difficulty getting Papaya's hood to close. It usually takes a couple of tries to get the latch to engage. Opening the hood is not a problem.

Today I stared at the exterior (avoiding housework again) and noticed that the hood is skewed. The gap between the hood and side panels is even at the windsheild however it skews in toward the driverside headlight. At the driverside headlight there is no gap at all. In fact it's touching the side panel and cracking a tiny seam of paint there. On the opposite side, the gap widens and the casing around the headlight is noticable.

The hood on the silver Insight is straight, an absolutely even gap all the way from windshield to headlight along both sides.

I think this skew may have resulted when the hood was repaired for hail damage in June and it may be the cause of the awkward hood closing. It there a simple way to even it up? I'd like to try to fix this myself if possible.

the bolts on the hood hinges can be loosened and the hood aligned. then tighten the bolts. be aware that tightening the bolts may make the hood shift a bit. try it and see.

Some times on my Insight, the inside release latch will stay in the open position, causing the hood not to latch. I simply push the release latch back in after I pull on it, and the hood closes every time. HTH.
