How do you disconnect the power to install accessories?

How do you disconnect the power in the Insight whenever you are doing something that calls for disconnecting the negative battery cable on a regular car?

I presume just disconnecting the negative battery cable won't do it.

I think the real question, is what are you trying to install?
I install aftermarket automotive equipment for a living, and I
never disconnect the vehicle battery for any reason.
