How to remove rear seat

Hope I edited the previous topic ok, i went to move it and it said cant connect to forum. 
Anyhoo, fold the seat down, get a 12 mm socket and rachet. Go where the seats butt each other and start to pull the fabric away from the hinge joint beat the seat belt bucket on the drivers side.
You should feel if not see 2 12 mm bolts on each seat half. Undo those 4. The passenger seat swings upwards then pull it to the drivers side to get the pin out of the other end of the hinge and remove. Do the same for the drivers side seat. Then make sure to unbuckle the center seat belt or unbolt it.
The bottom just pulls up once you unlatch the 6 or so connectors on it around and behind the cushion.
I have my seat back removed for more cargo room, but left the seat bottom in place. It doesnt weigh much and protects quite a few cables under it tot he gas tank. .

I like that Idea as I really never have passengers in the back.
Thanks Cobb. I'll try this tonight if there's still light out. I'll either report success or post more questions tomorrow.
I may get away with just removing the backs. too Have a very long drive coming up and need to fit 3 dogs and a bit of luggage. Its either create some room, or take the wife's passat wagon.

Removing the seat backs really helps with more cargo room. Since my father passed away last September I dont have rear passengers and find that really helps with more cargo room.
I also removed the rear plastic inserts that goes on either side of the trunk, the black foam thing, spare tire, spare tire carrier. Wow.... I can haul a tone of stuff and I believe the IMA cooling system works better.

It looks like the bottom half (bench part) comes out pretty easy. I decided to try it out when I got home today and while I didn't take it completely off, I got it started by feeling for the clips on the front underneath the cushion. There are 2 (one for each side) and they are captive, so you just pull to unlatch a "D-shaped" metal piece that clips in from top and then just lift up. It wouldn't hurt to have an extra pair of hands, but I was able to figure it out, and I'm not really mechanically inclined
I wish I could have got pictures, but my phone doesn't have a flash and it was too dark even with the interior lights on.
It doesn't look like there's really all that much usable space under there, though...

Out of sheer curiosity, I removed the seat backs in about 5 minutes using Cobb's instructions. It literally took me longer to find a ratchet and 12mm socket, heh
The 4 bolts are all at the "seam" where the seat splits 60/40. Once you have the bolts out, there is a black plate (where the bolt holes are) that has a little hook on it that may keep it in place. Just push down on the seat a little to "unhook" it and then rotate the plate toward the back of the car to free that corner of the seat.
Now just do as Cobb said and lift up and over to free the opposite corner - there is a fixed rod on the side that needs to come out of a corresponding hole in the side trim.
Oh, and in case anyone was interested, I grabbed my luggage scale and the seat backs weigh about 37lbs in mine (split 25/12).

Well I did that much, and the seat is very loose, but doesn't come out. You need a 10mm socket on the bolt near the center of the seat on the drivers side of center. Then the seat bottom comes out.
I was wondering when someone would get to the point where there is a bolt behind the center seat buckle. LOL 2 clips at front and one bolt as previously indicated to remove the bench. to remove the seat backs, check the backside under the velcro and there are 4 bolts, 2 for each seat back.
