OK, I have decided to get a XM radio for my Insight -- probably a Delphi Roady XT. Where and how to mount it is the question. Please post/send pictures of your recommended mounting configurations. Another question is whether the factory radio is going to serve OK or do I need to install another head unit. I have an Alpine CD/MP3 head unit I could install if you guys with more experience recommend it. I also have upgraded front and rear speakers already installed. Your input is appreciated.

On the dash

I have my XM roady 2 ANTENA mounted on the dash between the vents. I used the velcro tape that came with it. There is a spot on the dash that has something ferrous that will let you just rest it there. though it does break up sometimes if you don't put it forward on the dash. I have the wires in the glovebox and the unit under the radio. The factory tape deck works fine

But what about the radio unit itself?

OK, you guys have directed me to consideration for the antenna placement but what about how and where to mount the radio itself where it is easy to use and yet out of the way and secure? Can you wire it directly to the facory radio? Do you use the cassette unit to connect or the wireless? How do they work? Do I need to put an aftermarket unit in to connect the XM tuner to?

I replaced the factory stereo with a Kenwood X780 Excelon headunit. It works great with the Sirius receiver that I have. The receiver is mounted behind the glove box.

You can also get headunits that have XM or Sirius receivers build right into the head units.
