This was a difficult task, but here are the results from today's commute home from San Ramon to Antioch (about 35 miles from the gas station). Some notable points about today's commute:

1) 105° weather
2) I had to occassionally dip below 50 mph (especially going up that darn steep hill towards Pittsburg)
3) The last eight miles or so brought me down from 120 mpg to 106.2 - traffic was just creeeeeeping along.
4) I was good about not using assist too much. Although the battery meter is low, I think it's in the middle of (yet another) recalibration.

Either way, I'm ecstatic! I'm sure this is old hat for some of you folks, but I am so darn pleased with myself. I can't wait to show my boyfriend when he gets home!!!! :D

I once owned a 50cc moterbike; it was able to get only 55 MPG, which says quite a bit for our amazing Insights. :p
I had a Yamahopper (I still cringe @ that silly name) 50cc scooter in the early '80s. I regularly got around 100mpg on it. It was truly amazing to be able to put just a gallon or so of gas in it and scoot around town all week. That's what started me on my downward spiral into motorcycling ;)

I am also amazed at how infrequently I have to fill up the gas tank. The other day, before pulling in to the gas stop, I was bemoaning the fact that I only had roughly half a gallon of gas left - and that it would only take me about 35 miles.

After a few minutes of griping to myself about having to fill up on the way home (instead of getting gas AT home, where it's about 10 cents cheaper), I realized that this car has me spoiled. What other car can take you 35 miles on half a gallon of gas? LOL
