My SRS (secondary restraint system) idiot light is on. I had it checked and the code is DTC 1-2. The dealer told me it says something about a resistance measurement, in the book, but even they couldn't tell me what's wrong. They went on to say that it isn't serious so I've been driving it like that for a few months now. I just don't feel very good practising my speech that it is the "secondary restraint system is active and ready" indicator. :?

If anyone can tell me what needs replacing, how hard it is and the cost, I'd really like to remedy this.

Thanks guys and gals.

My SRS became lit when the local body shop was doing some work on my car near my seatbelts. Although there was no problem with the SRS system itself, because it was lit, the car had to be taken to a Honda Dealer to reset it. It cost ~$80 to have the light reset. (The body shop paid for the reset.)

I was uneasy drving around with it lit, even though I was pretty sure nothing was wrong.

I'll be interested see other people's feedback as to whether they've experienced problems and how they solved it.

According to the Service Manual, it is either is these that are at fault:
- Cable reel in the steering column (the thing that allows the wheel to turn and the air bag to be connected)
- Air bag inflator (that I would not check, boom!)
- Wiring harness for the seat belts
- Bad SRS unit itself

It is probably on the Inflator side since if it was one of the others, there would be an other code like 2-2, 3-2 or 4-2

But that inflator is the pouder that goes boum so I would not touch this myself.
The only thing that I see checking is the cable reel. Check continuity from both sides (from the In to the Out)

Else it is for a good technician.

Can you point me in the right direction to get started on this since I have never taken it apart and I don't know what to measure and where. - Thanks.

Way beyond beginner skill level. As Yves stated the "boom" factor.

_ANY_ "measurements" on the SRS system _REQUIRES_ a good understanding of electricity and the consequences of doing something "wrong".

The light being on means a fault has been detected and the air bag _may_ NOT correctly inflate in case of an accident.

HTH! :)
