'06 silver in San Diego

Cattygurl, I distinctly remember that silver Insight having 'extra' decals of some sort on its backend. Does this sound like your car :?:

painted windows

Cattygurl, is something including the word 'insight' painted on the rear window?? (when I referred to 'decals' they were in the form of additional wording on the back of the car)

As rare as Insights appear to be, it has been about one year since someone asked me about mine in public (and I drive it almost everyday)! Are people getting used to seeing hybrids, or am I just unapproachable???

People have stopped asking me if it is an electric car. I was recently in Thunder Bay Canada and there my Insight was a rare sight judging from the reaction of the population. Conversly in Minnesota hybrids are everywhere, particularly Prii. In a Chicago suburb a biker pulled up along side me and asked, "does that car really get 80 miles to the gallon" I said that was about right. There was a little pause. He said "sweet" and we drove off.

I think the word is finally getting out. :D Just because folk don't ask doesn't mean they don't notice.

I saw two in the same month: On my way to work in Rocklin, CA. Older silver model heading up I-80 into the Sierra foothills. And, then another silver model south bound I-5 exiting into the "Pocket Area" of South Sacramento. Both times I followed the car to put on a Honda Insight Parade.

Really cool.

If you spot my 2006 "Red Rocket" in Sacramento, license plate WA6VWY, give a wave.

With all the tech people in the Seattle area, I see a number of them - there's two red and two or three blue ones I see regularly (every other week or so), and another silver like my own I see from time to time.
I remember when my husband first got his Prius, we'd wave at all the other (rare) Prius owners in the area. Now, they're a dime a dozen. I love driving the 'unusual' car! =D

HEY,

I saw a Brand New silver Insight (no plates yet) parked on the 900 Block of Prospect ave. in Redondo Beach Ca. today.

Lol  the south bay of L.A. is getting loaded with 'em.

and I thought I was gonna have the highest local number (352). ;)

Comments and questions seemed to drop off for me too for quite a while. However since gas broke the $3.00/gallon barrier they have picked up again. Every time I fill up I can pretty much count on questions (but since it is an Insight, I really don't have to fill up too often :D )

Hey, Ross in Elk Grove -

I could have been the older Silver on I-80. I live & work up north in Oroville/Chico and only get down to Sac a few times a month. Late September I'll be taking a class in Rancho Cordova every day for 2 weeks, though. I'll keep an eye out for you.

Up in Chico this spring I used to see an Insight every few days, and now I only see a silver one once a month. I dunno why.

I saw a blue one on 151 near Columbus, WI this morning. I was going to stop but it looked like the driver had already vacated the car and was nowhere to be seen.

It had a personalized plate but I don't recall the name now...

It's true that southern California is packed with hybrids, but I rarely see another Insight on the road. I am frequently asked about my car, but must chalk it up to three factors:

It happens more often when gas prices rise abruptly.

The high-profile green paint job has 'neck-wrench appeal'

and

I am female.

NOTE: ...must stop describing IMA system in detail, mentioning the award-winning in-line three cylinder engine, & using the term 'drag coefficient' in those conversations... There are apparently a few people who consider such behaviour unladylike.

Muahahahahah!

On Tuesday, 08-15-06, I saw a silver Insight on I-64 near the middle of Indiana headed west and a silver Insight on I-64 west somewhere in KY.
I was at UVA in Charlottesville, VA for the next few days. There was a red Insight parked on grounds all week.

That Silver Insight on I-64 was probably my father. He's a cancer specialist. Thanks to his wonderful little silver car he's actually saving lives, doing groundbreaking research and making rounds in about 20 hospitals all over Indiana as part of an Indianapolis-based outreach program. He's not a member of InsightCentral, as his schedule is quite busy. You'll frequently see him bee-bopping around Indiana's highways, probably speeding a little. He's not just busy, he's a former competitive driver and member of the SCCA.

It's nice to know that good mileage has actually saved lives.

Thanks for the i.d. on one of the Insights. Glad to see a member of the SCCA tooling down the interstate in the most efficient "sports car" produced (until September) :(
On this trip, I was "hypermiling" my wife's 04 Solara convertible. It was loaded with me, my son, and about 600 lbs. of stuff for a 1st year at UVA. I haven't tallied the receipts yet, but according to the cars computer, I ranged from 29 to 34.4 mpg for the 2400 miles I drove in five days.

There are quite a few Insights around the Milwaukee, WI area. The other day my wife and I parked at a restaruant and when we came out, there right next to my silver Insight was another silver Insight. That was pretty cool! The chances of us both being there and having an open spot next to mine must be pretty slim. I wanted to go back in and find out who owned the other one, but my wife wouldn't let me. :)

When I'm in a situation like that, I just report that the vehicle has its lights on and wait to see who comes out!

Last weekend I was filling up at a gas station when a fellow in another silver Insight pulled up to surprise me and say hello. What's even more bizarre - this stranger ended up knowing one of my wife's best friends. Small world.

And last night the fire dept. came door-to-door handing our fire safety pamphlets. The fireman who came to our house was absolutely in love with our Insight. He even mentioned that the fire dept has a red Insight in its fleet. (which I knew about)

Considering there are so few in Canada, this was pretty neat stuff.
