Hello! I'm in the market for a Gen1 Insight. The one I've got my eye on, sold by a private seller, is advertised as having a modern Bubmlebee battery installed, with receipt. I ran an Autocheck, and though it came back clean, the battery replacement was not listed under the detailed vehicle history as I hoped it'd be. I was wondering if there's a way to tell for sure myself that the battery installed is in fact a Bumblebee battery, and if not, would a pre-purchase inspection (which I'll have done anyway) by pepboys/lemon squad be able to find out for me?

BBB have a serial number sticker on the battery itself.
Lots of taking things apart to access.

It won't show up on CARFAX/AUTOCHECK probably because a dealer did not install. Done by privateer.
He has the receipt, isn't that enough.

PEPBOYS will be not help on verification. Period!

Thanks for the info, Willie.
That's pretty much what I figured in regards to the autocheck.
In a perfect world, having a receipt should be enough; the price asked for seems somewhat lower than I expected for having a BBB. Well, technically the price seems just about right, as far as I can tell; it's just that most people list a higher asking price expecting to haggle down to what they want/what the car is worth. I suppose I'm just being paranoid/overly cautious.
Thanks again.

Do you have a "link" to the vehicle. We could give better info if we had more history of the vehicle.
Maybe the seller HAS to get rid of it for numerous reasons. If he was in no hurry the price could be higher, depending on the particulars of the vehicle.
Got any details, etc.
Giving us your location where the vehicle is would help in evaluating the vehicle.

Yeah, that makes sense; both my and the vehicles locations are in southern California. Here's the listing for the vehicle on Craigslist: https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/5697756079.html
Here's a link to the Autocheck results; not quite sure if it'll work, but here's hoping: http://www.autocheck.com/vehiclehistory/autocheck/en/vhr/pdf/JHMZE147X2T000190

We've agreed for me to check the car out this weekend, and I've asked if I could have a pre-purchase inspection done by lemon squad during this week beforehand, as it'll be about a two hour drive one way for me. Still waiting for an answer on that.

Don't waste your time and money. Nobody is going to know anything important about an Insight. There is a pre-purchase check list on this site. Search for it.

This weekend is almost gone. Isn't that a little late? It is about an hour drive from the vehicle to Scott's (Jue Motors) in Covina. He is very reasonable on price and an expert on pre-purchase inspections on the Insight.
(Who is "lemon squad"?

Ha, whoops; should've been more clear; by this weekend, I mean next weekend, since this current one is almost over.
Lemon Squad is a third party company that provides on-site, pre-purchase inspections.
But Scott from Jue Motors sounds like a good idea. I'll have to talk to the seller about the possibility of meeting up in Covina and dealing there.

Scott will be on the road out of town from the 19th so NO appointments on or after that date for a while. Another valid member of ICN, BALTO is in the immediate area. Maybe he will respond and do an inspection.

Thanks for the recommendation Willie! I was going to hop on here and recommend Scott as well but I digress.

Anyway, I would be happy to meet up and help. The price doesn't seem too off. I just picked up a 150k mile silver with a 1 year old BB for 1600$. The only bad thing is, I leave next Sunday for Lake Havasu for a week, but Saturday I would be up for a meet and inspection. I can also pull the battery compartment apart and check for a legit BB battery, I did so as well on the car I bought.

Notice: Missing panels

In the first pic it looks like I can see clear through the wheel well to the ground.
That may mean it's missing ALL of the underbody panels and the wheel well liners!
Possible evidence of major front-end collision repair.

Caveat Emptor.
