I have a 2000 Insight I bought 18 months ago. I use it for a 50 mile daily commute to work, mostly freeway, with some intown driving, some hills. I'm getting a complete battery cycle every 86 miles, from completely dead to full charge to completely dead. Is this normal???

Mine does the same. According to this web site, if it discharges quickly, it's not really discharging but rather correcting the reading of the charge you have. Nothing to worry about. Nothing you can do.

Sorry, it is NOT normal, but is a notice of decline in the condition of the IMA battery and/or components.

When the charge goes down to 0, Is the discharge rate fast or slow?

Is the discharge cycle increasing?

Have you driven it on a different longer trip?

Have you tried resetting by removing the 12v. battery cable for a few seconds?

I have a couple of posts that summarize my recal experience near the end of page six at: http://www.insightcentral.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4796&start=75

Could be normal for the driving conditions, but probably not.

5spd of CVT :?:

What's your MPG over this 86 mile trek :?:

Are you using that much IMA SoC, is it that "fragile", or is it recaling (recalibrating) :?:
