My IMA light just came on in my 2000 with 112K miles. The dealer claims it's $5800 to replace. Am I screwed or are there any other reasonable options?

Also, they say the catalytic converter is out ($2K to replace). I've heard dealers have to replace these free if they are under 7 years old ... is this true?

Any help is much appreciated.

What state are you in? You might qualify for an IMA battery warranty extension:

Unfortunately that's about what the catylitic converter set costs, though if you call up Honda and ask for some assistance on the rediculously overpriced parts they might help you out.

My cat was replaced for under $1200 at Hagerstown Honda in Maryland. Shop around if you can. Try salvage yards, haprecycling.com for one. I found one there cheap, but it had a lot of miles on it.
