Hi

I have a Honda Insight 2010 and I have been trying hard to get a grid charger that will work for it.

The only one i found so far is way too expensive.

Why does others like Max volt and co carry a 2nd gen grid charger.

Can I use the G1 charger for a G2.

I am hoping to buy one but unwilling to spend more than 250$ any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Here you go:

You might be able to use a G1 charger, but you must have a G2 harness as the G2 battery fan requires PWM control where a G1 is simply voltage driven. Charging without a fan will likely trash the pack.

My thought is: if you want an electric car, get one. The Insight is a hybrid. The battery pack assists, it does not drive. There is little reason to grid charge it unless you have issues. The gen1 folks do this more because their vehicles are old now. The first thing a 2nd gen owner should do if having issues is to get to a Honda dealer for software updates.
There is a reason the IMA never shows (or really is) completely charged. There has to be “space” for the charging the system does as you drive.
There are some hybrids that do use the battery more for actual driving, but the Insight is not one of them.
