Insight Parts Interchange List & Junkyard Mods

As sale of new parts are discontinued, cars are scrapped, and used parts become rarer every day, I thought it important to resurrect this topic.

The purpose of this thread is to document alternate parts interchangeability so that we can find parts that we would not have thought of otherwise. (For example the Accord door handles)

We have discussed it previously (there is a 10 year old thread, but that title was "Honda parts only"; and the last time I posted this list it was hard to find under the Accord Door Handle title). Again, credit to Mathemaddicts.

If you know of another part, add to the list.

***********************************************************************************************
- 94 era Accord chrome door handles (hint: rear door handles on 4 door cars are usually barely used. These may also be available as reproduction on Amazon for cheap.)

- Daewoo Matiz/Chevy Aveo Springs

- Chevy V6 EGR Valve

- CRV/Civic Si/S2000 Orange display CD Player

- Acura RSX/S2000 Leather Steering wheel

- U1, U1L, U1-7 Tractor Batteries

- '98-'02 Honda Accord 4 Cyl EGR Valve (Thanks Jeff) OEM Part #: 18710-PAA-A01 Standard Motor Products #: EGV980; Parts Geek #: 5981-01174093

- Corolla/VW 9" or 16" whip antennas (All over eBay $5 shipped in US for new ones.)

- Acura 2 button remote (clicker) case

- Daewoo Matiz rear bump rubbers

- S2000 stock speakers. More power, and plastic cones. Same shallow dimension. (Thanks Chris!)

- [this is not a Junkyard Mod, but an important enough aftermarket wear item for consideration] NTK LAF sensor, part #24301, Amazon, $115.79 vs. $306.10 Majestic, two testers. jime

- 96 Civic Window Vent Shade (external vent visor for side door? (Thank you KevinD)

- "Company AVS makes a vent shade that is almost perfect fit for the 2006 insight. Part #94623 made for Dodge 02-08 Ram 1500. " (Thanks Dale La Roy Smith)

- Gen2 floor mats ---> will work unless you suffer from OCD. Gen2 have cut outs in places where Gen1 mats are straight. Gen 2 has Insight script on both L/R. I am using Gen2 All-Weather mats for the winter.

- "Security Control Unit" from an S2000 will work in our cars. (Thanks Musmanjam)

- A/C Evaporator Core (Front) from Acura Integra 1998 - 2001, Honda Civic 1998 - 2000, Honda CRV 1997 - 2001

- 2001 - 2003 Acura CL Clock Spring (Thanks Natalya)

Daewoo Matiz rear bump rubbers

Next to standard Insight (right). Note how much more progressive the Matiz ones are. minor modifications to fit Matiz units. First did this in 2008 - you'd never go back to std.

NTK LAF Sensor Part # 24301

The subject part is available from Amazon for less than 1/3 the cost of the part from Majestic. Direct replacement, and outwardly identical. Tested by 2 or more IC members. Performance looks identical on OBDII C&C.

Jim, what Honda is this originally for? I plugged in several years of Accords and it failed to match. I see that it DOES fit our cars, which makes it a cheaper alternative to Honda's part. But I'm trying to compile a list of parts for the record which we may be able to go after if Honda stops making the Insight part, not just aftermarket parts.

Also: Thanks VetteGuy for confirming the Accord EGR!

Ntk 24301

I believe from my research that the subject sensor is a direct replacement for the LAF sensor on the Honda 92-95 Civic VX. This needs verification from someone more conversant on Civics. Since Civics continue to employ LB, it is very possible that newer models use the same sensor. Some Civic guy needs to help us out here. [later. Can't verify this by searching Majestic parts list. Additional correction, the CVT late models probably don't have LB, if CVT Insight is any guide. I should cease talking about Civics because I don't understand them very well.]

I will continue to research, but I now now count at least 3 reliable sources who have actually installed this part and verify that it functions as original, myself, topfueltim, and Chris(on multiple cars).

Ntk 24301

I had the NTK 24301 on my car and it worked fine. The only difference was the wires were longer than the stock.

A quick visual inspection by crxnut2 (if I remember correct) at Mid Atlantic last month
commented that the HCH2 egr looks like the same size.

I did a quick, dirty cleaning of under the plate at 2am while switching out the 12V
2 weeks ago. I really should order a new gasket and pull the valve too, next time I get under the hood.

Now I wish I'd taken a closer look at the insight egr at Mid Atlantic.

AC,

Now if you tell me that you are talking about your HCH, then GREAT! You got my point. :) If you are talking about your Gen1, then you, along with my dear Sensei 先生 JimE, are missing what I am trying to split hairs over. ;)

I am trying to keep this as a list of the non-obvious. If Amazon search comes back with NTK 24301 for a 2002 Insight, that's obviously a part for our cars taht anyone can know. (Although great useful info for saving money.) But what I'm really curious about is, what other parts are NOT listed for Insight fitment that are also usable on our cars?

Does a Honda Civic steel caliper work on the Insight? The dealer would never be able to tell us that from their book. Or that a Chevy Blazer EGR valve also fits. Or a gen 2 or 3 Integra mirror I saw this morning? I noticed the fading on the black part looked like my Gen 1's. Will that fit our bolt pattern? This is the info I am trying to gather here first.

We will just have to check it out in Connecticut in August! Hope to see you there Will.

I think it ought to be pointed out that this is a 5 wire sensor and will only work for 2000 and early 2001 Insights with the 5 wire connector.

Sometime in 2001 Honda switched to using three O2 sensors and the 1st [AFR] sensor (the one closest to the engine) changed to a 4 wire sensor.

[edit] I use the floor mats from my CRX. They fit the G1 Insight quite well. I also made a left foot rest using the aluminum clean out door from a toaster oven.
