:D I've had my '02 CVT Insight for three years now and have been nothing but totally impressed with its quality of construction and performance. I put a lot of miles on for work, as well as around town. I haul data acquisition equipment around the mid-west year-round for my job. The equipment fills my Insight, but it all fits well within the car. And, in terms of performance, I have passed long strings of other vehicles with total confidence(92mph). It just winds up and goes! And, with the CVT transmission I don't get that "two down-shifts" when I punch it. The CVT transmission is excellent in every way. As for mileage, I've been getting 54.5 in the summer with the A/C and 52+ this winter. And, on four long round-trips to Iowa I've gotten over 60mpg. Needless to say, I've gotten a couple of speeding tickets, but this car just begs to haul on down the road. Granted, it's not a high performance sports car, but it does perform very well when the need arises. In all, I have nothing negative to say about the Insight.

I think the CVTs get the best mileage at about 40 - 45 MPH...Nice
flat road, good weather, no traffic, could reach about 71 MPG...
(I know...just average for you MT guys  )

48 mpg is Astro's peak FE performance and sits between the 75 & 100 mpg lines

But I'll go along with the original post...when I bought Astro back in June for $5,000 with 93,5000...I wasn't expecting much. I just wanted a little commuter to run me back and forth to work. It's turned out to be one of the best cars I've ever owned.

I found out later with a little research that the whole IMA system was replaced at about 85,000. The service center that did the work (Palm Coast Honda) said it was covered by Honda. Palm Coast gave me a list of all service done to the vehicle...all routine, on time, and at no cost to the original owner (she must have been a babe).

Needless to say, this car keeps a full charge nearly 95% of the time, runs like a top, has no squeeks, etc.....and it's so darned fun!

You're lucky to have the cvt as an option. Only the manual was brought into Australia  Maybe if cvt had been available, more would have been sold. I have seen one cvt here - it was brought in as a second hand import. I like my manual shift but my wife only drives auto - so cvt would have been a practical option for us.

It's nice to here of another Madisonian who loves their Insight. Often people ask me how it handles in the snow, or if it can withstand the cold, or go fast enough on the highway. Please! I wish more people could read posts like yours and realize the Insight doesn't have to be babied, and that the Insight is a FUN car.
