For quite awhile before I bought my Insight I practiced driving my regular cars much more efficiently - using momentum with drastically reduced 'stop-and-go' driving, slow smooth acceleration, trying to break early and roll through intersections keeping up that momentu,, etc etc.

Now that I have experienced that 0 - 150 mpg meter bouncing up and down as I drive and frantically trying to keep it up as high as possible I have found that even though I may be driving my truck (or any other non-hybrid), the meter is always there...in my head...keeping me anchored to the techniques of economical conservative driving.

I'm sure everyone here who has another normal gas guzzler must experience the same thing.

Therefore the Insight is not only a rolling video game where you can win money, but also a pretty valuable learning tool for winning money in regular cars as well.

Oh ya!

My sister rolled in after midnight two nights ago and thanked me profusely. She was driving along deserted country roads with almost no gasoline and attributed her successful arrival to the techniques she had learned from me! :D

I too employ the techniques learned here to my non-hybrid vehicles. I added about 75 miles to my tanks capacity in my Honda Accord. I have a BMW 328i (that I am selling so I can purchase an Insight) and the best trip MPG I have received was 37.6 which was a dramatic improvement over previous mileage before I learned all the helpful tips here.
