Battery temperature

Good article. I'm impressed with the documentation this site comes up with. Thanks for your part in that.

It backs up what my experience had already revealed: In Virginia, gas mileage is much better in summer than in winter. It makes sense. Slow down the chemistry with cold and it takes more power to charge the battery, and you can't get as much power back out of the batteries while they are cold, so the gas engine works harder. Storage efficiency goes down. Ultimately, storage efficiency is gas mileage, since the gas engine has to do anything that the electric engine can't do.
