I'm having some strange issues with keyless entry. The car has a security alarm system and I have the fobs compatible with the security system. The keyless entry system works intermittently. When the car has sat for a little, it will take 10+ clicks on the fob for the car to lock/unlock. The proximity doesn't matter, even from inside the car. Thereafter, the fob will work just fine for the next couple minutes. I replaced the batteries in the fob and this behavior is consistent with both fobs that I have. There is a little red light on the fob which illuminates when the buttons are pushed, so I'd guess the fob is ok. Anyone experience this behavior? Possibly there is some kind of signal interference?

The door switch to lock and unlock all the doors works fine, so I suspect the relay and other elements of the electronic lock/unlock system are ok. I visually examined the circuit board for the security system and there was no obvious damage.

is it an aftermarket unit? I do notice that our original FOBs do lose signal strength with age. New cheap FOBs that I have gotten have more than double the range now of my original FOBs. So could be just the FOBs getting old? I mean they're 20 years old are there about.

Do you have to press the button repeatedly rapid fire, or can you do it leisurely and it still takes the same number of presses?

Can you measure the current pulled by the alarm system receiver with an ammeter or oscilloscope? Does it increase only just before the press that unlocks the door, stay up there for a few minutes, then drops back down?

The fobs I think are oem. Interestingly enough we own another car of the same age and the key fobs seem to work fine.

It doesn’t matter if I push the button in rapid fire, or slowly, it seems that it takes the same number of presses to activate. I hooked up something to measure the amps. It appears to fluctuate between 0.2 and 0.6, however when the signal is activated it goes to 1 or 1.1. This seems to be consistent with both keys, even if the locks don’t move.

The amps consumed immediately drop down after the button is pressed. When the signal is not activated, I find it strange it’s not a constant draw, rather it jumps up for a second then down and back up.
