Is their such a thing as a build date when ordering a new Honda or is that just BS from the salesman?

Do they just receive an allotment from the manufacturer and tell you something else when your color or tranmission type isn't what you've requested?

Is there a way to track a new insight as it's being built/shipped?

Yes there is a build date. My experience is that the dealer can't do a very good job of predicting it, but they will tell you their guess as things go along. After the build the car arrives quite quickly--the delay is in getting it built.

I don't know anything about allocations. In my case I went in and told them I wanted one and they put in the order.
