Hi everyone,

Well, I've joined the tribe. I found a great price on a used 2001 Insight with 56,000 miles on it and no apparent major problems. It's a manual transmission, which I wanted, and it is red. I bought it Saturday, January 17th.

I love this car !

I live in Mill Valley, CA (Bay Area) but the car was for sale at a dealership in Hanford (?), CA 210 miles away, making my drive off the showroom floor more like a major excursion !

Imagine my joy at watching the MPG steadily increase as the miles passed. By the time I hit the East Bay with only about 25 miles to go it read 70.8 MPG !

I appreciate this forum for all the tips and friendly discussion. I'll be bugging y'all for suggestions, so please excuse my naiveté in advance.

~One very happy Insight owner

Welcome to our small international tribe, which is probably the most diverse and interesting tribe on the planet. Warning, many have the Insighter grin :D and it is rumoured to be contageous.

California Insightin' - record # in one day?

The honeymoon feeling of driving our new (used 2000) Insight was still in full swing when I started wondering why I wasn't having the "new car syndrome", of seeing myself coming down the road the other way. I'd only spotted a single other Insight since she joined the family over a month ago. Then it happened. In Fort Mason, S.F.-coming out to the parking lot there was another, right across the isle. Then, fifteen minutes later, just across the Golden Gate bridge, a red one was at our side, taking the Sausalito offramp. Another 15 minutes later, as we parked in San Rafael, there was another waiting patiently right across the street.
I'd be curious how many others, you've seen in a single day, just while out and about. I've maybe seen one other since that windfall day!
Enjoy your new wheels. Don't forget to get gas once a month!

Other insights...

Here in Salt Lake City, UT, I've yet to see a single other Honda Insight. I've seen a few Civic HRX's (I think that's the name?) where the body style looks slightly similar, particularly the rear-end, minus wheel skirts. Utah has had a long-standing obsession with SUV's, though. Out here, they are called "MAVs" -- Mormon Assault Vehicles. Big LDS families drove a LOT of early Chevy Suburban sales.

No insult to Mormons, it's just the terminology out here ;)

I'm betting there are a few on the road, though. We do have two colleges within an hour of my house, and it's a great college car. A two-seater in Utah, though, that's not considered a sports car, is just kind of antithetical to the "big family, lots of friends" mindset many people have about who they want to fit into their vehicle.

On the other hand, like many here, I've observed several Priusses. One even tailed me for about twenty miles on my commute the other day. I don't know if he was trying to draft (hah!) or if our driving patterns were just so alike that I made a good lane partner or something.

Hi All:

___I have never seen more then one in a week let alone in a day! 7 in total over the last 4 months. Funny thing is, I saw Chisight on I294 here in the Chicago area about 10 weeks ago. I didn’t know who he was before I had met him in person last weekend but sure enough, he had the reddish tint beard driving a Formula Red which is what I remember seeing of the Insight driver. He remembered the day only because I had followed him in the Corolla a bit too closely for ~ 15 miles while checking out his car :D

___If a slow moving draft presents itself, you may as well take it, right … ;)

___Good Luck

Hi Dmaurer:

___Sorry, I should have welcomed you to the forum and congratulated you on your Insight purchase. Fun little automobiles, aren’t they. The Game gauge in particular is exactly that, fun to play.

___Good Luck
