Looks like some "sulfur tainted" gas got out. The thought is that it corroded fuel level sensors and caused incorrect readings in the fuel level.

This sounds a bit far fetched...sulfur on it's own isn't notoriously corrosive...nothing like chlorine for example. Although the gas company actually admitted to it and says it will "step up" to help motorists with repairs. I wonder if it was really sulfuric acid, or a close derivative...that's about the only thing I can see that would corrode a sensor to a completely inoperable state in such a short time.

I love this quote from the story:

> Marathon Ashland and the Attorney General's office says the best advice to drivers now is to use the highest grade gas for the next few days until it's determined all the bad gas is diluted or gone.

Here's a better idea: Don't buy gas from Marathon stations. Is Kentucky's Attorney General a former marketer for Marathon or something??? "use the highest grade gas"???? Who are they kidding?

Hi Corey872:

___I heard about some Shell stations having problems w/ high sulfur fuel a few days ago as well?

http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1143914/posts

___Coincidence?

___There was a Marathon station down the road from me that got into trouble about 3 weeks ago after selling thousands of gallons of fuel that was contaminated w/ water. With ~ 50 cars, trucks, and 18-wheelers stranded within 3 blocks of the place, they wouldn’t stop selling fuel! The people behind the counter were told to keep selling by the owner even though they knew they were selling contaminated gasoline and diesel! The police finally roped off the entry way and it was finally finished.

___One lady had her Mercedes towed to a local MB dealership and the bill was > $700.00 for the towing, removal of the contaminated fuel, and a flush of the tank. I can’t wait to here about the law suit from this screwup.

___Good Luck

This is weird because my brother was following me in a miata convertible and said my insight gave off a sulphur smell.
I don't think they are related. The Insight tends to be a little sulfur stinky when under heavy acceleration. The cat has a hard time warming up so you get some stink. It's usually very noticable when the car is brand new.

Wayne,
That is interesting. I was about to stop in at my local Shell station about a week ago and noticed that they had all their pumps out of order. I didnt really think that much of it, maybe that had just gotten a late shipment of gas, BUT it was every pump...every grade...and it was out for three days...odd.
Cheers,
Steven
