Is it not a bitch that we live in a country that has signed on to the kyoto agreement on greenhouse reduction yet the government offers no incentives to buying hybrid technology. This is even more embarassing concidering that from discussions on this forum i understand that the U.S.A. (which did not endorse kyoto) appears to offer some sort of tax incentives for owners of hybrids.

You are almost right. Like you I live in Quebec and there are no incentives. But in Ontario there is a $2000 cash back and I think that British Columbia has a sales tax return (people from those provinces could be more precise than I)

In december 2001, I wrote directly to the Canadian Finance Minister (John Manley) and the Quebec Finance Minister (Pauline Marois) which both basically said (after more than 6 months) they do not care about hybrids:

The Canadian effort is to have ethanol put in diesel fuel and biodiesel, taxe free
_____ so that industries can polute tax free (my $0.02)
and they said that heavier vehicules are more taxed (wow!)

The Quebec counterpart said that they do not care right now but might think about it, in the future
_____ probably in 10 years when fuel cell vehicules start to be sold (my $0.02)

pretty much the same response as when i inquired about it. Its interesting about that the incentives are province based given that is was a federal decision to sign kyoto...this country never ceases to amaze me. :roll:

Hi,

I went to the SAAQ yesterday and asked them about a plate refund. They said, after a good internal enquiry, that there is no such thing.

Someone mentionned that before, and had no proof as document number or something like that, and I asked then, it was the same No.

Too bad that here only the citizens help making improuvements and the goverment does not care.
