So im going to a Christmas party in Vegas this weekend, and my contemporaries think im crazy for wanting to drive when the company has offered to pay for a flight.

I want to do some serious hyper mileing between here and Vegas and I was wondering if anyone had done this trip before? Any suggestions?

Also, im looking for a cheap hotel to stay at on Friday night, if you have any recommendations.

Well I can tell you you won't make it from LA to Vegas on that amount of fuel. You can get very good milage if you suck up behind a moving van that is doing 55 MPH the entire way because I have done it.

It took FOREVER (actually 10 hours) to get there from Fresno, but I did it in a CVT Insight and got 62.5 MPG when I normally get 54. We averaged 43 MPH for the drive.

On the drive home I was solo and it was early morning (2 am) so I set the cruise at 85 MPH and only got 42 MPG.

Awesome, thank you... im going to leave early Friday morning to try and beat traffic. Im also going to remove my passanger seat and other effects so that I can lighten the load a bit.

Im going to spend all day tomorrow and all day on Thursday to try and prepare for the trip.

Hi Alex; very nice to meet you last weekend! Concerning your upcoming road trip:
1) leave VERY early Friday, like maybe 4:00 am
2) Hope for WSW winds Friday, then you'll only use about 3.25 Gal
3) Ascend Cajon Pass without using assist; try to keep SOC full
4) Try NOT to return on Sunday, traffic is awful!
5) When returning, try FAS downhill for 18 miles into Baker, CA

Thanks!

I've been practicing my rebooting technique since you showed it to me on Sunday. I might have no choice but to return at or around 1pm. I’m betting on that most people wont be traveling to Vegas this close to a major holiday.
