Does anyone know if there are lighter than stock seats available from companies such as sparco? How much do the stock seats weight? And if anyone has put in aftermarket seats, how did they fit and what are the pros and cons of doing so?
The stock seats, like the rest of the car, are designed with minimum weight in mind. And no, you will not find a lighter seat. I have had mine out and in quite a bit and they are probably the lightest stock seats I have ever seen. I am sure some fixed position (no recline adjustment) carbon fiber racing seats might be lighter but it would probably not be worth it (since you would lose the adjustment for very little weight benefit).
Most grocery, drug, and discount stores sell collapsible aluminum seats with plastic webbing that would be ideal. Choose the ones with the really short legs (for beach use) so you won't sit too high in the Insight. A set of matching seats should run you <$10, as many stores are discounting now in anticipation of summer.
