I sent a message to Michelin asking if they had any low rolling resistance tires that would be suitable for my Insight (OEM here is Bridgestone B391 165/65 R14). This is what they replied:

"The best Michelin fitment would be the 175/60 R 14 79H TL ENERGY XM 1.

This tyre has an overall diameter difference of just 4mm , and is only 7mm
wider than your current 165/65 R 14. It will fit on rims between 5 inch and 6
inch, which should be suitable for your vehicle needs."

Does anyone have experience with these tires - especially any effect on FE?

Thanks

I think you might already be familiar with this post:

Tire Comparison Test
http://www.insightcentral.net/forum/vie ... 38&start=0

From my expereince there are many different versions of each brand of tire and can be location specific. (Read tires from downunder can have an "up-side-down" pattern :p (sorry had to get that in but I hope your get my point)) :D

So finding anyone familiar with a specific tire "model" is going to be the first hurdle.

AFAI remember and has been reported in the group there are some european LRR tires comperable to the OEM's. But the reports have been limited and sporadic. The only "comprehensive" tire vs. MPG post is the one above.

HTH! :)

Thanks John.....

Yes I have read that post and others on tires. I have also realized that tire names and features can be location specific. To make matters worse the OEM's in the USA are different from here (even allowing for the possibility of different names in different places for the same tire). However, if anyone thinks they may have some more information that might help me decide what tires to get next I would be most grateful.

It's funny, I know what the map says.... but it doesn't feel like you're upside down when you're here. :D
