Hey eveyone,
I would appreciate it if some of you could tell me if I am missing a piece to my bumper cover...? I had my bumper cover replaced due to a BUS rear-ending me (VERY little damage). After I had the cover replaced, I started noticing a great deal more road noise comming from the hatch area. Well anyway... I washed my car this last weekend and I looked at my bumper and noticed that I can see into the inside of the bumper through a hole where it looks like a plate is screwed on (above the license plate.)
Happy motoring!! :D

Martin - We all have a small compartment behind the rear licence plate to the best of my knowledge. This has been mentioned in the forum before - we agreed that its only obvious use would be for smuggling. (Except that we've now told everyone including Border Control! :( )

I believe the posting is under problems/troubleshoot, called "minor queries", or something to that effect.

Speaking of bumper holes...

I purchased my insight from a private owner. But only a few days after I got home, I noticed on the rear bumper that the light for the license plate does not have a cover. It looks like to me, because of the round holes around the opening, that there should be some clear cover that screws into place to protect the license plate light bulb. Motty82, this is not what you are referring to, is it? So am I missing the cover, or is that part supposed to be open?

No Rob, that is exactly what I was trying to explain. It seems as if there should be some sort of plate above the license plate as to not allow water and dust/dirt into the vehicle. After all, there are wires of some sort back in there.
Anyone??

I understand from reading threads like this, that the hole above the plate is for a license plate light? I have no light above the plate at all, and according to Michigan law, it's required. Will someone please help me out, and explain the process of putting one on? Where is the cable connection's for the light, where can I get the parts at a decent price, etc. Any help would be helpful. :)

I've done that already, and there is no light that I can see in the "bumper" section of that url.

I suppose I could simply purchase a 12v light at any car parts store and wire it to the tail lights wire harness. But if someone knows that there is a connector in the area of this "hole" that is meant for the license plate light, it would be helpful to know how to get to it.

I wasn't looking for a tail light, as I've already stated. Thanks for the link.

I looked plenty at the link you provide the first time, so don't assume I didn't put forth any effort.

Well Jakked,

All I can do is READ what you write. Nor did I _state_ that you _did not_ put forth effort, but by your lack of success it still seems so. Nor did you ask for further clairification so you could succeed.

It takes additional verbiage when communication is limited by the written word only. If you don't put forth the effort there, then you leave readers to fill in the blanks for you. (hence this extra verbiage ;) )

If your asking for help its usually best not to leave those offering the assistance in the dark. Or fail to write a sentence or two to shed some light on the effort you did put forth.

I like to help fellow Insighters. :)

But if they ask "help-me" questions and don't follow-up with on point posts, just a simple "that wasn't enough help. (end of reply)" Then the only conclusion you leave is that the question wasn't worth the effort answering.

Searching does take effort, but it also takes the ability to guess how other people (or the programs they've written) will index the things you're looking for. I'm very bad at this: like the poster, I never would have thought of looking for a license plate light under "tail lights". Tail lights are the red things on the sides, dammit :)

Or just the grit to look at every last page possible. :p

But after a search or two using no "filter" I'd recommend some creative thinking. Such as in this case, what other diagrams will also be associated with lights on the rear of the car?

Using that one filter on the sub-link page titles you can eliminate 90%+ of possible pages to look at. Beyond that point the going gets tough and the parts catalog has some of these exceptions. Still, _someone_ will have to dig it out.

A person wanting the part will be he most motivated. :)

Don't want to put forth that effort :?:  OK there's an 800 number and email link on the front page :!:

How 'bout we just leave it at this:
My inadequate brain, compared to others, was simply insufficient to comprehend that a license plate assembly would be considered a tail light. My simpleton ways have always thought of tail lights as the right/left rear turn/brake/running lights. I made a huge error and have wasted a great deal of your time and I appologize. I'll try not to bother you like this again.

Sorry you felt the need to grovel. :(

Brains can learn. :)

And if reader brains will apply the additional search (and other) "advise" given above plus a few little creative tweaks as the need arises they can become a superior brain too. 8)

But please don't look for my "oopses" in here (there in writing from day one of the forum  ). We all make them from time to time. ;)

Ask questions, and apply "filters" in follow-up replies :!: :)

HTH! :)

Hate to resuurect an old thread, but I'm looking for the exact same thing.

Is it #23: REAR BUMPER BEAM?

I've searched the forum briefly and it seems that the area above the license plate has several vacant rectangular holes (I have a 2004). So I'm wondering if somebody has made a cool aftermarket kit that can be mounted here with some LED lights to illuminate, like my favorite, ultrablue? My other silver 2004 2 seater only gets 1/3 the gas mileage, so I'm liking the Insight after 2 weeks of driving. I still enjoy the other car however,
