OK, so I saw the Saturn ad on tv and am thinking a new bumper sticker would be good to better inform other drivers about the insight. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Maybe we can come up with a good one together and order up a bunch.

Here is what I am thinking so far for a two line sticker:

100 MPG @ 50 MPH
40 MPG @ 100 MPH

What do you think?

A bumper sticker would be good, but something a little more realistic than "100MPG @ 50 MPH". I doubt most people on here could get 100 MPG at 50 MPH. I've done it twice in 2 & 1/2 years and only on one 17 mile stretch of road. People already complain about not getting the MPG hybrids are rated as getting. I can see someone saying they don't believe the bumper sticker and wanting me to prove it, and me not being able to. How about a more realistic "70-80 MPG @ 50 MPH"? On the other hand, I like "40 MPG @ 100 MPH". How about: 70 to 80MPG @ 50MPH=$AVING GA$$$$$

Ever since I stuck this on a few weeks ago, it seems I get more thumbs-up gestures...

Gets the point across that our Insights aren't necessarily slow. The sentence should probably be deleted, but for a while I feel I need to explain myself (having been a lifelong leadfoot). JoeS.

Joe, looks like you are ahead of the curve on this one. Also it seems like we have quite a consensus here except for the actual mileage.

NICE Sticker you have there Joe! :D

I thought there was another bumper sticker that is already out for the Insight, saying "My Car SIPS Gas Your Car SUCKS!"

Tree Huggers usually have a negative connotation from most people, but they are environmentally aware and interested in helping improve the environment. If you put in tree hugger into google, you'll get a million negative blogs about them. They are in some people's eyes over the edge and are similar to PETA folks.
I fish, and I eat meat, and I consider myself environmentally aware, but don't put me in the PETA pile.

I am having a sticker cut out from a local sign maker in 2" high letters
70+ mpg to put in the lower left rear hatch window (above the bumper) The mpg will be about 1-1/4" high. It'll be in white for contrast, and we'll see how it goes. Hopefully I'll have to remove the 0 and replace it with a 5 one of these days.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a two line sticker:

50,000 MILE AVERAGE
60.3 MPG

I am going to use my label maker with 1" tape and print out "35 MPG @ 110 MPH" to put on the flat part of the black bumper below the license plate.

I was showing my idea to my girlfriend Desiree and asked if it was big enough to see. Her reply was "It's big enough for the guy that's stuck behind you  to see."
Maybe you had to be here, but it sure was funny to us. :D

Perhaps like many of you, I was disappointed by that “hyperbolous” TV commercial wherein Saturn jumps onto the bandwagon, appealing to the American consumer’s fixation with horsepower (“zoom-zoom” and all that). Perhaps the good news here is that Saturn may be desperately seeking market share currently claimed by the Toyota Prius. I guess we shouldn’t expect Saturn to offer a hybrid vehicle in the near future.
Well, that offensive commercial and all of this discussion has propelled me onto the “soap box”.

I believe that the average driver is in too much of a hurry expediting higher fuel prices and global warming to slow down and ignore your proposed signs and bumper stickers that would justify driving sensibly and obeying the speed limits. I’ve even reached the point of ignoring my own little signs in Sputnik’s respective rear windows:

“Significantly Less Dependent on Imported Oil” (with an American flag), and,
“Minimal Contribution to Global Warming” (with a photo of earth as viewed from space).

And what if this type of sign were to catch on and become trendy :?:

Tractor-trailers might display signs indicating:
6 mpg at 55 mph
7 mpg at 65 mph

Or, bicyclists (like myself) might wear colorful jerseys indicating:
Infinite mpg at 20 mph
0 l/km at 32 km/hour
($65 for this shirt, and $3 per gallon of electrolyte-enhanced beverage  )

The “ZEV” indicator on all-electric powered vehicles is clearly misleading unless all of the energy for charging is obtained from renewable resources such as wind or solar.

This could all get to be confusing or even silly.

I’m afraid that until or unless energy prices rise precipitously, efficiency will not become a significant part of the American value system.
In the interest of its own survival, OPEC attempts to control energy prices, allowing gradual increases but precluding rapid ones.
