Hey all, I finally got my hands on a 2001 Insight and I love it, but the stock stereo/speakers are killing me. I want to upgrade, but I'm definitely too poor to pay for a professional installation. However, I have no experience working on car stereos, so I wouldn't even know where to begin. Since a lot of you on this board seem to have upgraded your own systems, I was wondering if any of you could point me to a good information resource on DIY stereo upgrading. Component recommendations would be appreciated as well, keeping in mind that 1)I want the best value possible and 2)I want to put in the least work possible (read: no modifications to the trim).

Thank you all so much.

The first thing I did with mine was upgrade the factory front speakers. This is pretty easy to do and requires only a little exacto knife work on the stock grills to make room for a better speaker (this is done to the underside and can't be seen from within the car). I am now upgrading the head unit and installing/wiring a shoebox subwoofer at the same time.

It is generally agreed that adding rear speakers is to be avoided.
