Hello Fellow Insight Owners...
I'm new to the group - 1st posing. Just purchased '06 Silver CVT #385.
2nd trip to dealer for a nasty engine bay 'whining noise' - constant at steady 2K rpm, not just when on/off gas. "Honda Eng Support Called".
Internet research seems to support my contention that it's not normal when steady state 'crusing'. Anybody out there able to shed some light?
Good to be an owner, I love the little beast.

My first guess would be the CVT tranny.
Is the whine present at speed in neutral?
How about with engine off completely?

CVTs do make a slight whining noise at most RPMs. I've had 2 of them, and they both made the noise. I kind of like it. It makes the car sound like it belongs in the Jetsons. However, it sounds like your noise is more than a "slight" noise. Is that correct?

I agree with above replies. Could be the whine of the CVT. (I personally love the sound - sounds like the car is more "electric" ) Sometimes you can't hear the whine above 2,000 rpm because you start to hear the engine noise (and road noise) over the whine. Is this possible in your situation?

My CVT whines louder on some roads than others...sometimes I hear it sometimes I don't (although since I've gotten used to it I hardly notice it anymore) I'm pretty sure that the whine is "normal"...I am certain that with time you'll get used to it like I did.

That "whining noise" you speak of, by chance does it really sound like a small turbine power plant?

I to have an 06 Silver CVT and and at or about 2K RPM indicated engine speed I can lightly hear what to me sounds like a small turbine spooling. It's not a dull or loud sound coming from the car, rather a medium to high frequency (turbine-like) whine.

Suspicision has it that this is normal for the vehicle and it's actually not all that unpleasent a sound.

Anyone with other opinions?

Thx for the response. Plz see my latest posting (8/2) on '06 Noise Update. I'm trying to put this to bed once and for all. Yes - it does sound like a turbine spooling up.....you're right on target. Stay posted.
