Hello, this is my first discussion post in this forum. I'm not only new to driving an Insight, but also mostly new to driving in general. I'm 17, and I've had my license for 8 or 9 months. Before this, I had a civic, great car but unfortunately got totaled in an accident. I'm loving my Insight (CVT) so far, the fuel economy and space are perfect for a broke teenager who doesn't have much to carry around. I've already become obsessed with keeping the mpg counter as high as possible, and at the moment I'm getting around 49mpg. Most of my driving is highway driving. I have a grid charger and aftermarket sound system already. I've never seen another G1 Insight on the road, but I'd appreciate any other AZ drivers introducing themselves if they'd like.

I'm here in Chandler. There's a frequent poster who is very knowledgeable tryingbe. I've never met him. Noticed hondarider90 pop up on the forum here and there. I sold my insight to David in Litchfield Park a few weeks back - his 2nd Insight.

Went years without seeing a G1 here , then recently I've randomly seen two - one in Mesa and the other at Sky Harbor Airrport. I now drive a Monte Carlo Blue with pretty good paint (for now).

Congratulations on your purchase! You found the right group for information, and advice. Ironically, I bought my Insight from someone who posted it on Arizona's Phoenix Craigslist. I then had it trucked back to Illinois where I live. I have been working on that little by little since then to make it more more roadworthy. I love this thing! It's a five-speed, so it gets better than 50 miles per gallon even with the bad IMA battery disabled.

Luvmyinsight here welcome to the world of insighters. I live in Tucson AZ and I used to see insights all the time when driving around but I haven't seen any in maybe 5 or 6 years now. I have a 2001 that was silver but it was fading so badly from the sun here that I had it painted synergy green and now my car is seen by drivers and I am not fearful of driving anywhere. I will keep driving my little Porsche until it literally falls apart.. love my insight....bebeaz

Welcome to the Insight owner's club. I lived in AZ for a lot of my growing up years (mid/high-school in Douglas on the border and Flagstaff through college). I even managed the Pizza Hut in Casa Grande for 3 months one summer and taught swimming on base at Ft Huachuca another!

My ex's family were in Scottsdale and my sister and mother eventually ended up back in Tucson where I would visit at least annually. I've driven my 01 CVT through AZ many times over the years and was impressed with how well the MPG held up fairly well even under the heaviest AC demands. Though I was known to use the AC button as a "turbo-boost" whenever I needed to speed up to pass or climb a hill.

My first vehicle(s) were in AZ of course, coming of age there, and I have wondered what it is like to be a new driver at this time in history (the 55mph speed limits and the gas crisis were peaking just as I started driving nearly 50 years ago myself). Gas peaked at $1.00/gallon when minimum wage was $1.25/hr.... even today's $4.00/gallon prices don't require a full day's wages to fill a 10 gallon tank! But I suspect you are at least moderately aware of the global implications of our rampant use of energy and fossil-fuels in general, which was a lot more abstract when I was your age. My first car ($25 64 T-bird that had been in a wreck) got 12 MPG and had a nearly 30 gallon tank... I pretty quickly found a $400 motorcycle to be my daily driver (50 mpg)... but thus began my love affair with vehicles. I've owned dozens including an antique light plane (47 luscombe silvaire) and a small kubota tractor. My current prize is a 1949 2.5 ton ford grain dumper that I'm trying to put back on the road.

I have a friend a decade older than me who saw a steam car in his teens and decided then and there that he was going to own one one day. First thing he did was buy a junker Model T, fix it up, then trade up to a more valuable antique car, etc. until one day in his 40s he was the proud owner of the oldest Steam Car on the road (a 189? Locomobile) which lead him to have the honor of driving one of the granddaughter's of E.O. Stanley in the annual Steam parade. He was recently widowed and they ended up hitting it off. Last I saw him, he had a round half-dozen steam cars that he maintained himself... a "poor man's" version of Jay Leno's Garage! The granddaughter cum wife was a friend of mine which is how we met!

Welcome to the group !! Just drive the car carefully and take care of her maint and she will last you many, many years. I get so many people asking about mine especially now that gas is higher priced again. Mine has 348,000 miles on it and she just keeps ticking along. I hope to hit the 500,000 mile mark in another 4 years ! Just a dependable and unique car with great history when they were made.
