Well, I put down the deposit for a brand new Red Insight this evening! Thanks everyone for all your support and suggestions. In about 4 months, I will be the proud new owner of a 2006 Honda Insight!

Now I just need my roommate to teach me how to drive a stick! :D

Good to know I am not alone. My silver Insight MT will be here in a few months and I need to learn how to drive stick also. I had my first lesson over the holidays. Wasn't too bad, hardest thing is moving from park- kept stalling out the engine

Must have watched too many westerns. I figured everyone in Texas would drive a stick shift! OK, so Canadians only have the stick shift option, but I wouldn't have wanted an automatic anyway. Once you have a little experience, the subconscious kicks in and you begin to really enjoy the feeling of "driving" the car. 8)

I ordered mine in early Oct.... originally for arrival in Jan, now it is pushed to March/ April :( I thought I would be driving in it by now. I ordered a Blue one. I was a bit bummed there was no green this year.

Since I have ordered mine, I have only seen 3 other Insights, one on Route 202 in PA, one at a surf shop in PA, and one on the NJ Turnpike. Not very common around here.

Ouch Merigayle. :( I hope you get your Insight sooner than that. I kind of ordered mine a little later than I should have. I am planning on leaving for Anchorage in mid-April, but I didn't order the Insight until almost mid January. The sales guy told me it was looking like 4 months before I'd see my new car at the dealership... I can only hope it gets here sooner. I don't plan on traveling the Alaskan Highway for days in the summer, when they'll probably be doing major work on the roads, not to mention those bugs splattering all over my nice new front!! :D

There might be a small window in the fall where I can drive up there, but I'm not getting A/C, so going in August or early September is out, and leaving in October is... not a good idea. It could be snowy in the mountains at that point! I might have to wait until next year to start living up North.

I wonder if anyone else out there has ever taken their Insight across the country, up to Alaska before... :) If I ever learn this HTML thing, I hope to get my own website up with hundreds and hundreds of pictures from my trip so you guys can see how my trip was. I just got a new digital SLR camera just for that purpose. I still need to learn about it though too!

This is a bit off topic but do you use an Apple computer? If so, the new iLife 06 has a fab new application called iWeb that makes it super easy to have a website and post all your pics on a website.

When I get my Insight, I plan on dedicating many web pages to pictures of it. I can't get enough of cool Insight pics. 8)

Hehe... why yes, I use a Mac iBook G4. Did my name give it away? :)

Yes, I've heard of Apple's new iWeb, and believe me, I'll be using them for my website. I just need to learn the basics of HTML and such. There are some cool ideas I want to implement for my website, and I might have to do a little HTML by hand to get things just the way I'd like them. We'll see what happens.

I am the proud owner of an 15" Aluminum PB myself. It'll look great with my new Silver Insight! It's funny, in the months I have spent reading this forum, I liken Insight owners to Mac owners. Both are in the minority but know they have the coolest toy around! And both Insights and Macs have an almost cultlike following! As a Mac lover, I think the Insight is the perfect car for me.

You know what? You're right. Macs and Insights are some of the coolest toys around. While other people have to deal with a lot of headaches, we Mac users don't have to (yet, anyways). And when it comes to the Insight, even though I know it's going to be a great toy for me, I am buying one for a couple of really good reasons. First, I think it's time to get people interested in hybrids. Hybrids aren't the answer to the gas shortage problems, but it's a step in the right direction. It's all about the personal responsibility.

And on top of that, I want to do my part to help minimize the pollution I spew into the air as I drive each day.

And to be completely honest, I could use some more social interaction in my life. I can't wait for my Insight to get here so I can turn heads and get stopped by people who wonder how it operates, and why they've never even heard of it before! :)

Well it sounds like we are going be getting our Insights around the same time. And we both have to learn to drive stick shift. And we are both Mac owners. See? It's already bringing cool, interesting people together

"...liken Insight owners to Mac owners."

Oh, gawd! Please, anything but that. The only way to make a Mac tolerable would be to dump the Mac OS (especially that horrible GUI with the fisheye distortion), and install Linux instead.

But on the original question of driving to Alaska in the summer without A/C, why not (if your schedule permits) take your time? Drive a few hours every morning while it's cool. When you come to the next scenic attraction, spend the rest of the day enjoying it? Hike, fish, whatever.

Long time Mac owner here :D . We drive an Insight and MINI Cooper S. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Powerful computers and not so powerful cars.
