New Insight Remote not connecting

Hi,

When I purchased my Insight Gen 1, 2001, Manual, it did not have a remote.

I purchased a remote from Car and Truck Remotes (2004 Honda Insight Remote Key Fob - Aftermarket). Despite following the instructions, I could not get the remote to connect and lock/unlock the doors. The instructions require you to put your key in the ignition and turn lock (0) to On (ii) several times. After this the remote should connect and lock or unlock the doors. This does seem odd in that in the Insight Manual, it states, you cannot lock or unlock any doors if the key is in the ignition switch.

Has anyone experienced the same problem or does it mean I need to go to a Honda Garage to initialise the remote.

I've only programmed an Accord:

Key to on, press lock on fob, key off
Key to on, press lock on fob, key off
repeat until the locks operate, then check unlock function on fob.
I think on an accord it took 3 or 4 cycles of the above operation to link the fob to the door locks.
Thanks Bruce, this is what I did, several times without much luck. I try again when it stops raining in the UK.

Does the fob have a tiny led light that illuminates when you press the button?

I would check the fob battery voltage with a voltmeter regardless
I'm not sure if the UK cars are different, but the key to this is ensuring the remote's FCC ID matches the keyless entry or security system's module's FCC ID.

The linked remote's ID is E4EG8DJ. I would double check and look at the module. The ID should be visible.
Thanks, checked the remote and the ID is E4EG8DJ, however how do I check the FCC ID on the Honda Insight?
Disclaimer: The following below is the investigative procedure for the North American (LHD) cars. I personally don't know how the UK and/or JDM cars are set up.

The keyless entry or security system module is located behind the coin pocket. Pull it out.

You will see the keyless entry module (red) which has the FCC ID (blue) or if your Insight has the accessory/optional security system installed, the module is located behind the keyless entry (yellow) which will have a green connector. If you pull this module out, the FCC ID should be printed on there.

Thanks, the pictures and instructions are very helpful. I will have a look in the morning when I have more light to see.
The remotes seem to have different numbers for different countries. My (Australian delivered) Insights have G8D-452H-A. This works. I got a supposedly correct replacement remote that turned out to have G8D-344H-A which does not work. I note that the photo julianachos posted reads G8D-452H-B (for Canada I assume).

I suggest that you ask another UK Insighter for the code on their remote. It may be that's the only one which will work (assuming your car is UK delivered). If it's used from Japan you may need the Japan delivered code - whatever that is.

With the correct fob, I have found the instructions on IC for linking the fob to your car work well.

Piggy backing on what ghillie said, you can also compare these numbers and see what matches or resembles what's on the website for the remote.

Maybe @retepsnikrep can chime in?

@GKEJ Searching on here for 'G8D' brings up 31 threads to peruse/read.
The info will be in there..

You don't need to go to Honda.
You possibly have the wrong remote.

Hi, I managed to get a picture of the Omron Control Unit DR&T/G Lock&Keyless under the coin pocket. See attached. Any ideas of what remote will work with this?

You would have to cross-reference a bunch of Honda remotes from the US and hope one of them is 433.92 MHz or close to it.

Here is a website that can help you determine the frequency - FCC ID Search

For instance, if you input E4EG8DJ, it will tell you the frequency is 307.9 MHz.

FCC ID A269ZUA101 has a frequency range of 433.4-434.4 MHz which might be the one you're looking for. Disclaimer: Might being the keyword.

I would search first though.

I'll try and get a photo of my Australian delivered control unit today.
Unfortunately, the Insight available to me today doesn't have the labels in the place indicated by the photos above. It may have been moved as part of the cruise control install (not by me). I'll check my other cars this coming weekend.
Hi, I think I am getting closer as to what I need after further research.

My receiver is a OMRON G8D-453H-B and I believe I need a Remote Key G8D 453H A with a possible manufacturers code of 72147 S1A G12
