Good afternoon,guys and ladies,

I signed up to this forum for wanting to know a bit more about insight, rather than reading reviews online from other companies and the reviews seem to be great.

Here is my situation, I am 23 and looking to buy an insight next year when i have available funds I'm from the Leeds area in the Uk, the insight seems to tick all the boxes for me, good mpg, good extras, big boot and cool styling. My dad owns a nissan leaf and a nissan e-nv200. I couldn't go for all electric because of traveling and wanting to drive where i wanted without worrying about miles, my dad also bought a toyota prius but he recommended me to have a look into the insight.

I would possibly be looking for the white insight not the top of the range with satnav as this is possibly too much money for me and I would like to maybe add this at a later date (aftermarket).

Great forum love reading how far these cars are spread out around the world, only one question do we have a Facebook group for the Honda insights for just the uk and if so can someone point me in the right direction or if we don't can we get one of these sorted out.

Thanks in advance guys Oh and how are we all loving the insights and any hints and tips for when I buy one !

Regards, James

I have a gen. 1 Insight.

I have thought about the Prius 1.

Cons:
- back seats. I do not need them.
- the Prius is a gas guzzler compared to the Insight.

Pros:
- no trouble with the battery.

About Prius 2 vs. Insight 2: I assume that they do not differ much, but in fact I do not know.

If I had to choose, I would simply do a test drive with both of them and see which one is more comfy. Does the Insight 2 have a manual gearbox? Where I drive a manual gearbox is a plus although I love CVT automatic transmissions.
its an automatic

on the reviews etc it always says a lot more for the prius however when i see videos about them they say theres hardly any difference. The plus side to the insight seems to be it is about £2,000 - £3,000 cheaper.

Just wanted to know other peoples views who have been in the same situation
I live in Sheffield and have a 2010 ES with about 61,000 miles on it. I do about 9-11 thousand miles each year. Lowest tank was 39 MPG (pootling around Sheffield and Chesterfield in winter). Highest was 62 (daily return trips to Castleford ).

I went for an Insight because I enjoyed driving it and I didn't in the Prius. And I could get a similarly equipped, similar mileage car at 2 years younger for the same money.

Definitely look for an ES over an SE. And get some snow socks or all season/winter tyres. The car was awful in snow on the stock Dunlop SP2030s and superb with Continental WinterContact TS850s. I now use Toyo Proxes CF2 as a summer tyre

Thank you great tips what extras do you get on the es that you dont get on the se
16" alloys instead of 15 inch. Paddle shifters, cruise control. The letter makes the biggest difference.
Hi all just thought I'd say hello, I'm from co.durham - I've just bought a white insight Es on a 59 plate with leather seats and 38000 on the clock, it's lovely to drive very impressed, can't seem to average more than 50mpg at the mo' but more than happy overall - I never looked for white always fancied the mid coloured blue one, but jumped at the leather seats on this one - got to say the whites really grown on me. First thing I've done is swapped out the dim yellow interior lights for some bright white led's - really lifts the car now and didn't cost much, less than a tenner from eBay. Hope you find a nice white one.

Welcome to the forum mate that sounds like the one I want I think I would prefer the one with leather seats which model is that, think all them little extras make a lot of difference to be honest and like you say it's cheap. What made you buy the car ?

Think I'm off to have a look at one today just because I have never seen one in person.
How many miles do you do a day in it?
I started looking a few months ago, we'd had an Audi A2 tdi since 2005 so wanted something low tax and high mpg (got high 50's in the Audi and £30 a year tax) so the Honda seemed to be a logical choice, Pruis seemed too expensive and we thought the Insight was way better looking. Mostly searched on line but did have a nosey at a one parked near us at the supermarket but didn't go to test drive or see any in the flesh as to put it. Anyhow one popped up with leather seats that wasn't the later model Ex so assumed it was an optional extra I'd not seen an Es with them so decided to call the dealers. I pretty much bought without driving it or seeing it apart from on line as it was down county and had to be brought up the next day. They handed me the keys and I drove home, took a big risk as I might have hated it, as it turned out I was over the moon these have to be the easiest cars to drive, feels powerful enough and handles lovely. Got a wish list to go through, done the interior lights so just mud flaps and shark fin to go, and probably some Michelin energy savers but got to wear out the cheap but brand new tyres first, other than that a great choice. At the moment I've done pretty much town driving, today I had a 30mile trip down the motorway and it averaged 58mpg, the cruise control is great too - hope you had some luck today they're a really decent car.

The EX had leather seats as standard. It was an option on the SE, ES and ES-T. I've seen models other than the EX turn up with leather seats but they're rare.

That reminds me, I'd forgotten, the ES gets leather steering wheel and gear knob as standard.

IIRC, the EX was part of the original lineup.
Ahh that explains why after several months looking at what was for sale the one I bought was the first I'd seen with leather seats - I couldn't find anything 2009/2010 that give a leather option (like an older options list etc) I'd love to know what it cost when it was new - they are very nice seats and the leather is solid rather than the tiny holes or pattern that the Ex has - and yes leather steering wheel and gear knob too.

I ran out of time to go see that car in Manchester might get another chance just never seen one in person yet. Wow them seats look ace that's kind of what I'm after don't want to get one and wish I had got this or that on it would rather get everything I wanted in it
I had a good trawl through all the sales for a white one last night just to see if there were any I could point you too, couldn't find any Es or Es-t with leather but there were a few Ex with a black leather and rich black interior but then the price was starting 8k and higher, mind you there's the sat-nav installed and they're a younger car - I tried searching the bigger company's like Evans Hawlshaw and some of the supermarket type ones too sometimes they have a few hiding in their stock list - there's this one in blue so probably no good to you but just to show how some for sale tend to be hidden from a general search till you try specific searches (not sure if the link will work and no pics on the ad)

I'll drop a post if any thing pops up in white that's high spec

Looking at next year as i dont have the funds yet unfortunately. Thank you very much keep me updated on your car and how you are liking it.

Hi guys went to see my first honda insight and it was literally 5 mins away from me it was the top model one the ex with satnav and also leather seats only downside is wasn't white, it had only 7,000 miles but i believe was way over priced they wanted like £11,300 for it on a 11 plate. From this I then went to another dealer to see another one which was the se model. I have definatley come up with the idea of wanting the top of the range one looks so much better inside and a quality feel.

Hi - another UK member here - I bought a 2010 ES-T in Polished Metal with Grey leather seats 2 months ago. I have the original bill of sale, the seats were £1,276.60 extra. The car passes the 'smile on the face' test every time, a real pleasure to drive, and attracts a good deal of interest.
That's good to know any idea what the satnav costs at all I'm guessing in the ex you don't have to pay for leather
IIRC the difference between the ES and the ES-T was £1600 and the only difference was satnav. However, the Satnav is terribly dated and nowhere near what you'd get with a £150 Tomtom or £35 smartphone app.

It's dated enough that I'd probably take an ES over an ES-T of both were the same price.

Brilliant, I've searched and searched but not found an options price thanks for posting it. I bet the grey is really nice too, I found with the privicy glass on the rear that it's quite dark with the darker leather, I'd imagine the grey leather equals it out better. They are a nice leather seat, I've just had a 220mile trip earlier today Durham to Sheffield and back, really great stress-less drive - swear I keep forgetting I've done the trip it was such a comfy one, used the cruise control for most of the motorway and averaged 62.7mpg, I'd read on here to inflate the tyres higher at 39psi front and 37psi rear so tried this and felt the car drove sharper somehow, drove better all in all - not much more road noise or change in comfort so think I'll leave the pressure up. I'll join the 'smile on the face' club too

Pleased you like them in the flesh, I'm sure with a bit of time on your side you'll find the perfect spec white one. I'm getting more attached to ours, really pleased with it - I keep finding little things like the rear view mirror on the windscreen always seemed to low and in the way, then tonight I realised it kinda double pivots so I've managed to adjust it higher up to the headliner now gives a much better view front screen and maybes my imagination but also out the rear.
