Hi there, I've been having issues with my 2012 for some time. A while back I was having issues with my hatch not unlocking and my passenger door the same. Had my boyfriend reset the locks and haven't had an issue with them not unlocking since.

Now to be honest, I almost never lock my car. I chose to lock it this morning because I have Christmas presents in the back. I was hitting the button and nothing was happening so I kept getting closer and closer only to realize that the car was locking but the lights weren't flashing and the horn wasn't honking. When I unlocked it the lights flashed. I locked it again, nothing but I could hear the locks. I went and checked the doors, all locked except the passenger door. That's when I realized that even though my car was "locked" and I opened my door, the alarm didn't go off.

Anyone have some advice?

SHORT STORY: Car doesn't flash lights when hitting the lock button on key, also doesn't honk and wont lock passenger door. Alarm isn't working as well.

Hi, welcome.

Couple of things you could check to narrow down the issue:

Can you lock and unlock the passenger door with the car key (physically, not remote) and with the lock button on the inside?
If not, or if it feels heavier than the drivers door, then the lock mechanism may be jammed. Like if it doesn't line up properly (no damage on the door?)

If you lock with the remote, does the passenger door lock click too?
If it doesn't you may have a lock servo failure or a bad electrical connection.
If it does it is jammed somehow.
Maybe some repeated locking and unlocking frees it up.

Good luck!

Howdy and welcome to the forums. From your description, it sounds like you have a second generation Honda Insight, but you've posted in the first generation forum. I'd love to help you with your issue, but alas, I know nothing about the second generation insight.

One of our moderators will be along shortly to move your post into the correct forum: Troubleshooting and Problems - Insight Central: Honda Insight Forum. No need to do anything on your end.

Good luck figuring the problem out, and once again, welcome to IC.net!

I would look at the little button that turns on the interior lights. That is what also tells the alarm a door has been opened.

Also, have the battery under the hood load tested. A weak battery there can cause all kind of problems that don't seem related in any way. It would not unusual for that battery to be over after 4 years.

Indeed, on both counts. If the door does not trigger the dome light the door switch is the problem. The lock should function manually though.

You can have a voltage display like those cheap Chinese ones that go into the cigarette lighter port. If it drops below 11 volt when the engine is off you know the 12V battery is done.
You can also get an OBDII display like a ScanGauge or UltraGauge and set it up to show the battery voltage, along with goodies as instant fuel consumption, coolant temp, air intake temp, etc (I did).
