I went to get my inspection done today on my 2001 insight and the tell me the check engine light must of been disconnected by the guy i bought it from. They continue to show me that when i turn the key on no check engine light lights.... very messed up. Anyways turns out my upper catalytic converter was bad so i had them clean it out :D and move the sensors to the other converter, and while i was under the car i decided to have them remove the sound suppressor and the Muffler and the itty bitty exhaust pipe that runs only from the second catalytic converter all the way back,, They installed the 2.5 inch pipe NO MUFFLER and a large tip on the end... Sounds pretty nice, and i increased my response on the engine. However I am still wondering how i can get that dang Check engine light to work again. All the codes that it was throwing are now gone but it just bugs me that the light does not work. Please advise.

Maybe the bulb is bad?

Curley: "Hey Moe, there's stuff in the exhaust pipe!"
Moe: "Well get it out'a there." ;)

If it doesn't light when you first turn the key on then read up on how to tear the dashboard apart.

Where are you located?
PLEASE include your LOCATION in your PROFILE.

No reason to relocate your sensors.
You could have run the "resinator" without the muffler and gotten a mellow sound without the overly large exhaust pipe that makes it sound like a Calif. "Low Rider".

(This one I got to see.)

I live in Houston Texas,,, I had to relocate the sensors because I cleaned out the out converter instead of replacing it. If i had not relocated them i would of had more errors on the Computer. As for the resonator...lol I wanted the car louder. Figured i might well have fun with the car. I am actually considering putting a turbo on it in the future so i wanted the larger exhaust. It seems to have increased the Horsepower but it could also be that the catalytic converter is no longer stopped up. I will take a picture of the tail pipe and post it later. Car sounds like a 6cyl ready to go to the racetrack.

Turbo

I was reading some of your posts, would you know of someone that would do a turbo install on my car. Or would you be interested?

Sorry I can't do. Getting too old and losing manual dexterity and patience. You should be able to do it yourself, if you understand the perils and paulines of the turbo family.

A long time ago there was a company, around Houston I believe that installed a turbo for a guy. All that ended up in a law suit. I'll see if I can find the link somewhere.

Good Luck

Unfortunately I have not messed with Turbos but I think it is a awesome idea and am really surprised more people have not done it. I would be scared to have someone that does not have prior experience doing this type of mod, perform the transition to Turbo. I seen a Youtube video about that guy that sued the Mechanic shop.. bummer deal. Thanks for your insight...no pun intended.

You took you car in for inspection and THEY gutted or removed the cat? You got to be kidding. If a shop did that they would get like a $25,000 fine and the inspector would go to jail.

I thought the same thing when I noticed my "low fuel" indicator didn't come on while the dash test was going on.

I tore the dash apart and it turned out the bulb and the connection to the circuit board were both OK. I then lifted the plastic work on the tunnel and got at the fuel tank connector and simulated a full and empty tank with a resistance box and the low fuel light still didn't come on.

After looking at the schematic and not seeing enough detail to go further I decided to just continue putting gas in the car when the gage said it was low. How primitive. But it is better than using a stick on a Model T.

But I do agree that if a bulb doesn't light during the boot process it is most likely a bad bulb. But it sure is a lot of work tearing the dash apart to find out.

I did find out that three bars on the fuel gage indicated I had about 1-1/2 gallons of fuel left.
