I recently bought a 2000 Insight. It has 168,000 miles. On a drive a few days ago I experience a howling at around 75mph. It is a little unsettling even though the car generally seems fine. I got 60MPG on that drive- definitley learnig how to drivefor maxim mileage :?:

Welcome to the forum.

Was this road noise or something related to the engine? If you tell us whether you have a CVT or 5 speed someone may be able to help you diagnose it.

noise

IMA battery "full"?. In what gear? Trying coasting in "neutral" at that speed, any difference in the noise?
Need more particulars.

noise at 75 continued

Further inspection has revealed that there is no pan under the engine and that the bumper where it joins the air dam on the right is cracked ( probably parking lot damage). I taped this up but the noise is still there. I do think it is related to airflow because it was not always present at 75mph.

What does the belly pan under the engine cost?
