Maybe I'm just too finicky, but yesterday the IMA did not switch off the petrol engine once. Assist works, I can coast electrically, battery being charged, just doesn't stop the petrol engine at red lights anymore. AC was off, lights off, fan at the second lowest, radio playing at very low volume. Strange.
I have a mostly red light about one km from my house and during the past week, the IMA stopped the petrol engine every. effin. time. Yesterday not and neither on any other red light.
OBDII does not have any codes stored or pending.
Strange....

Not a G2 owner, but maybe fully charge the 12v battery on a battery charger, and see if the problem persists.

No clue, why, but today IMA stopped and re-started the petrol engine as expected. Strange, really strange.
Could it be, that the ECU has some very, very weird charge and discharge curves for the 12V battery? If I understand the IMA correctly, the electric motor is used to start the engine? So the 12V circuit is mainly for ancillaries like lights, radio etc.?

The 12 volt keeps the electronics alive. It can technically start the engine (there is a starter) but I have never had that happen. I think it has happened to folks who live in colder climates. A weak 12 volt can make weird things happen with the IMA, thus our repeated advise to check it's health when folks report problems. It's a good place to start. Now why you did not get any auto-stop, that could be a lot of things. I don't think a cold engine will auto stop. I know that switching off the ECO button limits auto-stop. And driving in S instead of D will keep it from happening at all. I do that on purpose when it's hot and I want the A/C to keep working when I stop at signals.

If it is slightly humid, like the G2 thinks it is slightly humid, then AutoStop won't work.

Try this:
When the blue (cold) light is off, hit the (vent control) OFF button before coming to a stop, in fact before getting below 15 mph. Your G2 will AutoStop and keep in AUtoStop as long as you keep the brake pedal down, even if fthat lasts for minutes, before restarting the engine.

Once AutoStop is blinking you can set the blower to max, A/C on (though it does not cool then!), back window heater on, it makes no difference: it has already determined how long it can stay in AutoStop and will hold it no matter what.

Incidentally, if you use Auto mode it will hold AutoStop fairly long too. The more you change the vent settings away from the Auto setting, the shorter AutoStop will last - or not kick in at all.

I hit the (vent) OFF button at almost every stop, only to set the blower on again and A/C off (it chooses ON as default...!) Tedious, but optimal for fuel conservation.

Shifting into Neutral after you've stopped can also force it into Auto-Idle Stop. You can then shift back to D and it will stay that way.

The Converter uses a B6-bridge MOSFETs (or Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors) for functioning of which requires power from an external source (self-excitation).
Therefore, a 12v battery under the hood is a key element for the functioning of the hybrid battery, during engine shut-down.

And therefore, a faulty 12V battery in 99% of the cases solves all the problems with the IMA.

Seems to be okay as it is. I do not (yet) have a voltmeter in the circuitry, but as soon as I move my Android tablet into a semi-fixed position in the car, I will hook up my ELM327 again and monitor all the lifesigns that I can see with Torque.
I gave up, questioning why this car does something. I just tell it where to go, when to accelerate and when to stop and let it sort out everything else by his own....

Seems I'm too stupid for a car that tries to be more clever than me.
My usual cabin air flow settings are a spread between windscreen and footwell air stream as I do not like the direct flow from the vents. But amazingly, the Insight takes air flow seriously. Once you have windscreen vents on, you'll switch idle auto stop/start off. which is annoying. So I have to make up with the draft from the dash vents - or very very little airflow at all - or live without auto stop/start, which is also annoying.
Any way known to have the airflow I want with the stop/start still enabled?

I think if the fan is on more than three or four bars you'll get that behaviour with the front demister - having ECO off may help.

Having the windscreen vents on will make the Insight think you want demisting. That automatically turns on the A/C compressor. I think you can make the airflow selection and then manually turn off the A/C button. I'm not sure though, I've never had the A/C off.
