Nor sure the Bosch is an LAF type. VERY different from the common variety. AFAI remember there is an aftermarket alternative, but it was more like $160 USD.

And you get what you pay for. My not too small experience with Bosch has been poor over the years. Where they are in recent times I don't know.

HTH! :)

Greetings John,
I don't think that the universal will work, but I figure to save 200 bucks its worth looking into. As I said this is longer term research. In the 2 months I have had my insight I have driven 15k miles so I'm going to be replacing things every couple of years at best.

From MY2000 to mid MY2001 the primary O2 sensor is a wide-band 8-wire unit. I don't think there are any cheap universal equivalent for this sensor. After mid MY2001 the primary was replaced with a standard 4-wire unit. The secondary O2 sensor has always been a 4-wire model. Starting in MY2002, a third 4-wire 02 sensor was added after the NOX cats.

I'm pretty sure all the 4-wire sensors are generic compatible.

So next time you mention 02 sensor on your Insight, please specify which one you are talking about.

http://www.drivewire.com has it for $208 including tax and shipping. I replaced mine last week. its an easy change.

If you want my old one, it works fine but has a failing/failed heating element. so in the first few minutes you'll throw a DTC (P0134 or P1162). IF you clear it out when youre temp reaches six bars or wait 3 minutes after starting your car, you will be fine. I'll sell ya my old one, but there a reason I didn't just keep the old one in my car. If somethings broken, I fix it, I dont wait for there to be a problem. Your risk, but once again if youre that into saving money I'll try to help ya out.

You probably don't wait a universal because your Insight needs to read the lean air ratios.

As I said in my original post I'm ok now. Its planning for the future. 208 is a better deal than I can get so when it I will go that route

I doubt it's the same sensor. The Insight's LAF is designed to read very lean. See this page:

Did some research, the old vx sensor (L1H1) is supposedly the same as our sensor (L2H2) both manufactured by NTK, (subdivision of NGK). only difference is the length of the wires.

sensor

But..........The insight uses a L2H2 sensor as the number one sensor(LAF), part number 36531-PHM-AO1
