My handle is "farfel" (Seinfeld reference). I read the post, and figured this would be a great opportunity to educate these car folks about hybrids. Their response:

- First they called my 90 mpg claim "bs"...
- then they pulled my membership.

HA! Lesson learned:
- Be careful what you say to non-hybrid folks.
- They'd rather censor you than learn.

EDIT: I humbly request all who read this go to that website, and tell them how WRONG they are.... i.e. tell them your MPG. Thanks.

It is not surprizing that people are skeptical when someone states their average mileage is almost 50% GREATER than the EPA estimates. We here all know it is possible under consistently ideal driving conditions, but if I was not an Insight owner, I probably would not believe a 90mpg claim, either.

But they should not have banned you. That was rude.

Wow. Somebody needs to make a video of their commute with the mpg graph showing... No wonder the Insight doesn't sell well in the states. Nobody even knows what they can do...or how to drive them.

??? 90/70 = 28% greater

Also I did provide backing evidence with insightcentral's mpg database... their response: "ban him!" Yep rude.

My short reply:
All too frequently some of the sorriest people in the world are forum administrators (not here obviously). :( You really get to see what a mockery "Playing God" is because they are pathetically lacking in both intelligence and decency.

I was on a forum that stated they were family-friendly, but that would depend on if you considered The Jerry Springer Show tasteful. The administrator would act like a good-natured bleeding-heart while encourageing trollers to harass well-behaved people. Few things are more disgusting than a shepard turning the wolves on the sheep while claiming to be the protector.

I will join that site and annoy them by telling them the truth.

Hey, if you weren't banned, you could tell them that I a) don't drive particularly slow; b) drive in mountains, not flat freeways; and c) still get 75 mpg.

I did think of signing up for that forum just to tell them so myself, but their signup form looks more like a request for a security clearance. Sheesh, birth dates, photo ids, all sorts of addresses that I don't have...

I would have a few comments:

- As Troy, your reputation on Internet forums precedes you (you are well know) but you did use an other name so it might not count
You have been nice until now so 'thank you' and please continu. That is as a moderator.

- You pointed to InsightCentral and specifically about lifetime averages but you know ("been that way for nearly a year now") that the database is not working so these guys would have a hard time to validate what you wrote

- Didn't you sell your first insight some time ago and now you where looking to buy an other one? If so, it is hard to increase the LMPG and it is harder with time/mileage. It might not be easy to beleive that a LMPG has increased so much

Yeah those people on those forums sure are rude for telling you that your 90 mpg is BS. I don't even own a Insight and I believe that 90 mpg is possible.

I think Billy and Excell are both achieving lifetime mileage oround 90 MPG, but for most of us achieving over 70 LMPG is awesome. :D

The folks on that site seem rather in the dark regarding hybrid battery performance and warranties. I suspect that most of the population is as well. This too will pass. It seems that the majority of Insighteres have not had battery issues. For those that have it is not clear if this is a problem with one cell going bad or a problem with some other aspect of the system. Hybrid abttery costs will come way down in the future as well.

I get a little pissed when I see Diesel presented as proven, trouble free, and environmentally sound. Turbo chargers do not last forever and are not cheap. Diesel fumes have been proven to cause lung cancer. When certain car companies tried to introduce Diesel engines to the North American market they had so many problems that they stopped building them. The internal forces created by high compression and the explosive action of Diesel igniting place high stresses on the engine and these problems are only now being addressed by the use of expensive advanced computerised technology. Hybrid technology actually reduces the stress on ICE engines and so far the technology has been remarkably reliable. :D

My LMPG is 86.2 currently. This summer during the warm temps, I was routinely making trips (700 miles or more) averaging around 93 mpg. I am not quite as good of a driver as Excel or Rick Reece, but I have learned the basics and really enjoy the ride!! I would like to log onto that website and explain, in a very credible fashion, how all this is possible and actually does occur. Billy......

Which is all optional...

One thing I would like to correct is the "3 year/36000 mile battery" false information they are spreading. But I can not get around the IP blocking the site is using.

As a moderator:

How do you boys/girls think of this. The other site you are refering to is about 'Engine oil analysis". They are all about oil.

I would not suggest to 'polute' their site with Hybrid MPG and warranty items. Trying to be frendly and respectful on the internet.

The EPA estimates are 62 city, 68 highway, combined is 65. 90 is 38% more than 65. But 28%, 38%, 50%... It doesn't much matter. what percentage of people listed in the IC mileage database are getting 90? The fact is, most people don't achieve the EPA estimates in any car, though most aren't aware of it. People tend to think their car gets x mpg regardless of how they drive. Yes, they were rude to you, and yes, the public needs to be educated, but you're beating your head against a wall here. You won't win them over, just piss them off, and then they'll have negative feelings associated with hybrids.

...so just give up to the rude and ignorant? I might address hybrids tactfully, but I'm not surrendering to these cavemen that don't realize it's the 21st Century.

Edmund Burke should have said:
All it takes for Stupidity to succeed is for the Educated to do nothing.
