My handle is "farfel" (Seinfeld reference). I read the post, and figured this would be a great opportunity to educate these car folks about hybrids. Their response:

- First they called my 90 mpg claim "bs"...
- then they pulled my membership.



HA! Lesson learned:
- Be careful what you say to non-hybrid folks.
- They'd rather censor you than learn.

It is not surprizing that people are skeptical when someone states their average mileage is almost 50% GREATER than the EPA estimates.

??? 90/70 = 28% greater

Also I did provide backing evidence with insightcentral's mpg database... their response: "ban him!" Yep rude.

I did think of signing up for that forum just to tell them so myself, but their signup form looks more like a request for a security clearance. Sheesh, birth dates, photo ids, all sorts of addresses that I don't have...

Which is all optional...

One thing I would like to correct is the "3 year/36000 mile battery" false information they are spreading. But I can not get around the IP blocking the site is using.

Or... send in your Insight Oil for an oil analysis. They provide free kits here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com Then you'd have a legitimate reason to post Insight-related posts & ask questions about your car.

I would not have added that stuff about a >10,000 MPG world record. You'll confuse the issue (which is hybrid cars & whether they are worth buying).

Most of those posts are 4-5 years old. Posts from an immature person in his 20's.

I'm a completely different person now (having been laid-off for a year & nearly bankrupt). I'm in my 30's & approach things more maturely & calmly than I did before.

Forget the past, and focus on the *present*, because people DO change & learn from their mistakes.



As for this group, I have not done anything except express my opinion.
As for Bob's oil site, search "farfel" and find my post that made me worthy of banning.
And as for my Insight, I sold it ~9 months ago to pay my bills, and plan to reclaim Insight #2 in January.

Good grief. I claimed 90 MPG because when I sold my Insight it had a LMPG of 91.2 MPG. I lived in Utah where the air is thin, the ground is flat, and 100+ MPG was routine.


Forgiveness.

Please, please, please try to apply that word to me. I've grown tired of seeing 4 year old posts drug up. I'm not that person anymore.

(And no, I'm not Dan Tropea or Stardork... just because someone claims Troy = Dan = Stardork does not make it true.)

Chris doesn't own an Insight, so he doesn't understand. As for the "others", they have already concluded that hybrids are junk, and they won't allow themselves to see the facts. Their brains reject the facts in order to avoid cognitive dissonance.

Look at the pic below. Notice the left has the MPG and the right has the MILES. These two numbers are tied together, so there's no way to "fake it". The driver of this Insight absolutely, positively scored 116.6 mpg over 95.6 miles.

Ya know, just today I asked for some advice on how to deal with insulting and/or harrassing people (like those at Bob's Oil Site that refused to believe insights get 90 mpg). Here's what my friend said:

"When someone is truly throwing around personal attacks and mudslinging, by not responding to your opponent, it creates the impression that you're above the fray and makes the guy insulting you look stupid. People usually form their opinion of someone not so much on what other people say about that person, but based on how they see that person acting."

I think I'll follow that advice. Contrary to what you believe I do NOT want to start fights and/or disrupt newsgroups. I'm living in a hotel room, 500 miles from my family. All I want is to relieve my loneliness and chat with other people.

It sounds to me like he doesn't really like his Insight. Here is the e-mail.
"I still love my Insight after three years of driving it."

Well it SOUNDS like he likes it. I sold my Insight ~9 months ago due to lack of money, but here's what I miss most:

- People coming up to me and saying, "What is that???" or "Do you really get 80 miles per gallon?!?" which gives me the opportunity to sell the car, encourage them to go testdrive the Civic Hybrid, and show that you can help the environment without making major sacrifices.

That's the main reason why I'm saving my money to pick up Insight #2.
